    • Apparatus, processes, and computer readable storage media for processing received packets. A session memory, coupled to and shared by a plurality of packet processors, may store configuration and statistics information for a plurality of communication sessions. A session active memory may store session identifiers corresponding to packets currently being processed by the plurality of packet processors. A comparator may compare a session identifier extracted from a received packet with the stored session identifiers to determine if another packet belonging to the same session as the received packet is currently being processed. Forwarding logic may distribute received packets among the plurality of packet processors. In the case that another packet belonging to the same session as the received packet is currently being processed, the forwarding logic may wait until the processing of the another packet is complete before sending the received packet to one of the packet processors.

    • A method, system and computer program product for dynamically establishing a client's Time Sharing Option (TSO) and/or Interactive Productivity System Facility (ISPF) session and maintaining the client's TSO/ISPF session on a zero-downtime/operating system (z/OS) host over multiple service calls. A session provisioning and maintenance (SPM) utility determines whether a TSO/ISPF session exists for a client making a request for a TSO/ISPF service. When a TSO/ISPF session does not exist for the client, session establishment is initiated by generating a TSO initialization module in a new UNIX System Services (USS) process. Session establishment involves initializing a user's own TSO address space through USS and using USS service call API's to make TSO/ISPF service call requests in the TSO address space. The SPM utility maintains the client's TSO/ISPF session over multiple service calls, bypassing the overhead of having to establish a new session for every service request which requires TSO/ISPF services.

    • Methods and apparatus, including computer systems and program products, for sharing objects in runtime systems and for providing isolation between user sessions in a scalable manner. A user context corresponding to a user session is stored in a shared memory area. Upon receiving a request corresponding to the user session, a process is selected from a set of operating system processes, and a runtime system is selected from a set of runtime systems. The runtime system is bound to the process, and the user context is associated with the runtime system to process the request. In some implementations, sharing user contexts enables virtual machines to be used in a shared but isolated manner: Each user context can be exclusively associated with an available virtual machine from a fixed set of virtual machines, and each virtual machine can be exclusively executed in an available process from a fixed set of processes.
