The multi-passing apparatus includes a feeding passageway extending from a feeding unit to an image forming unit, a divergent passageway extending from the feeding passageway to support a repeated transfer of a recording medium, and a guide unit to align a front end of the recording medium as the recording medium is transferred through the feeding passageway, and to guide the recording medium so that the recording medium passing the image forming unit for the first time is fed to the divergent passageway.

摘要： A frame image (210) with 5-mm wide margins is formed on a paper sheet on the basis of the leading end and widthwise end positions of the paper sheet (107) detected by a contact image sensor (CIS) (204) in an adjustment mode. After that, this paper sheet (107) is circulated to a feed position via a circulating path (206) and paper convey path (205), and the CIS (204) detects the frame image position formed on the circulated paper sheet and its paper end portion so as to detect errors from the 5-mm wide margins. Correction values which can cancel these errors are stored in a correction parameter storage unit (71), and forming start timing control is made using these correction values upon forming an image in an actual job. In this way, an image forming apparatus which can detect the paper feed timing with high precision, can eliminate deterioration of the image position precision due to mounting errors and durability of components, and can always precisely adjust the image position is provided.

The refeeding unit has an intermediate tray, a pick-up roller for refeeding the sheets one by one and a containing section for feeding the sheets to the intermediate tray. Each of the sheets is fed into the intermediate tray by a first or a second roller of the containing section. The containing section is movable along a transporting way and set at such a position that the first and the second roller are positioned corresponding to the size of sheets to be contained in the intermediate tray.

The receiving unit includes an inlet for receiving the sheet, a tray member for supporting the received sheet, an outlet through which the received sheet is re-fed, and an aligning device. And at least one of the pair of standing members has a widened portion for guiding the sheet passing through the sheet inlet. The sheet is guided by the widened portion and aligned on the tray member by the pair of standing members and the sheet is re-fed out of the tray member to form a second image.
