摘要： A heat dissipation assembly for use with a barrel forming a part of a firearm upper receiver. An annular shaped barrel nut is adapted to secure the barrel to the upper receiver. An elongated handguard is affixed to the barrel nut at a heat conducting location, the handguard adapted to surround a proximal extending portion of the barrel, the handguard having a plurality of apertures defined therethrough. At least one cooling element is located on an exterior of the handguard. A thermoelectric generator is incorporated into the handguard for transferring heat from the barrel nut to the cooling element. A fan component is integrated into the handguard and operated by the thermoelectric generator for drawing air through the apertures in order to provide additional cooling to the barrel.

A stepped extractor pin may be provided that prevents disengagement of the extractor pin. A tube can be configured to provide gas from a barrel of the firearm to the piston via the carrier key. The tube can have a heat radiator formed from triangular shaped threads on at least a portion of the tube. A piston on the bolt and can have a plurality of rings including pairs of mating rings that are formed and maintained as a matched pair.

The thermal mirage reducing device includes a heat control shell oriented along a horizontal longitudinal axis corresponding to a bore line of a firearm. A cross-sectional profile of the heat control shell taken perpendicular to the longitudinal axis is asymmetrical about a vertical plane dividing the heat control shell along the longitudinal axis. The cross-sectional profile has a heat-directing portion protruding on one side of the vertical plane. The heat-directing portion extends to a high point that is vertically higher than any other point in the cross-sectional profile and laterally offset from the vertical plane. The cross-sectional profile does not intersect the line of sight of the firearm.
