    • Disclosed herein are methods and apparatuses for an improved air barrier system for use in residential or commercial buildings. An individual practicing the method, or an apparatus configured to practice the concepts disclosed herein, would insert an insulated envelope between joists located in a joist bay of a building, where the insulated envelope has a flap and the insulated envelope envelopes insulation. The user places the flap over insulation previously distributed on a floor of the joist bay, and applies an air impermeable coating over at least a portion of the flap of the insulation. By inserting the insulated envelope and applying an air impermeable coating over a flap and pre-existing insulation, the ability for attic vents to wind-wash conditioned air out of fiberous insulation is diminished.

    • An energy-conserving building covering material includes a building panel, such as a roofing panel or siding panel, coated with a thermomorphic material that can change its energy reflectance. The thermomorphic coating material can be combined with a carrier material., or it can be encapsulated with a solvent and optionally a color former in a microcapsule suspended in the carrier material. Alternatively, the building panel can include an electrophoretic material sandwiched between two transparent panels acting as electrodes. The building panel, when covered with said coating material and carrier material combination, can reflect radiant energy during warmer temperatures and can absorb radiant energy during cooler temperatures and re-radiate said absorbed energy into an interior of a building.

    • An attachment member 11 for board materials 2 such as heat insulating materials and the like comprises an affixing plate part 5 which is affixed to the substrate surface 3a of a body 3, a support plate part 6 which extends approximately perpendicularly with respect to the substrate surface 3a when the affixing plate part 5 is affixed to the substrate surface 3a, and connecting plate parts 7 which extend in both directions at the upper end of support plate part 6. By affixing the affixing plate part 5 to the substrate surface 3a, the support plate part 6, the connecting plate parts 7, and the substrate surface 3a form connecting cavity parts 8, and by engaging end parts of board materials 2 therein, the board materials 2 are attached to the substrate surface 3a.By means of this, it is possible to easily attach board materials such as insulating boards or the like to the substrate surface of a body or the like.
