    • An apparatus for recording an image onto a sheet medium (12) has an entrance nip (14) for transporting the sheet medium (12) into an image recording section (20). A write head (56) records onto a portion of the sheet medium (12) between the entrance nip (14) and exit nip (24). The exit nip (24) is formed by a drive roller (26) paired with a corresponding exit pressure roller (28). A motor (60) provides rotary motion to either the entrance drive roller (16) or the exit drive roller (26). A coupling apparatus (54) has a coupling roller (36) and a loading mechanism providing a loading force to nest the coupling roller (36) into continuous rotational contact against the entrance and exit drive rollers (16,26), whereby rotation is transferred between the exit drive roller (26) and the entrance drive roller (16).

    • A transport assembly with a driven split rollers and split nip gap includes a support and a first drive roller that is rotatably mounted to the support about a first drive roller axis. The first drive roller is driven by gears, belts or the like for rotating the first drive roller about its axis. A number of nip rollers are adjustably mounted to the support and positioned in spaced apart relation and adjacent to the first drive roller with the first drive roller being in frictional communication with each nip roller with the nip rollers being driven by the first drive roller. A second drive roller is rotatably mounted to the support and is positioned a distance from the each of the first nip rollers to define a split nip gap for receiving and transporting a web therethrough. The nip gap distance between each of the nip rollers is individually adjustable while being directly driven by the first drive roller.

    • The feeding mechanism for feeding media from an initial site to a predetermined site comprises a base, a scrubber, a deskewer, two feeders, a lifting device having two cam portions, a driving element and a releasing device. The deskewer is moved between a first position and a second position and sets the media located at the initial site. The two feeders are used for transmitting the media located at the initial site toward the predetermined site. The cam portions are used as a lifter to move the deskewer from the first position to the second position. The driving element disposed between the lifting device and the releasing device generates forces to actuate the cam portions to move the deskewer. The releasing device is used as an overload protection clutch connected between the lifting device and the driving element, having a first plate separately contacting the driving element. As the driving element is actuated, the driving force generated from the driving element can be transmitted to the cam portions via the releasing device, and the overload from the driving element can be properly set free by the releasing device.

    • A number of card feeders comprise a feed belt underlying a friction wheel operated by a pulsed drive. A continuously rotating drive shaft may be coupled to a selected feeder by an air cylinder which retracts under control of a controller to translate a guide wheel of the feed belt of the selected feeder so that the feed belt moves into contact with a drive wheel rotated by the continuously rotating drive shaft. The pulsed friction wheel rotates through an arc in order to drop a card from a stack of cards partially supported by the friction wheel onto the now moving feed belt. A downstream card sensor, when sensing that a card has been delivered, signals the controller so that the controller operates the air cylinder to extend it to decouple the feed belt from the drive shaft.
