    • A portable core drill adapted for sampling dense mineral specimens or the like by urging a fluid cooled/lubricated tubular drill bit into a dense mineral mass from which a sample is to be extracted is comprised of a drive member for imparting a drilling-effective rotary motion to a tubular drill bit about a longitudinal drill axis and a spindle member for coupling the drill bit to the drive member, which spindle member includes a bit fastening member for receiving and retaining the drill bit concentrically in respect of the drill axis. The bit fastening member, in turn, is comprised of a bit-engaging collet member, received in a collet housing having tapered sidewalls and an end wall, and a rotatable compression member (i) for constricting the collet member about the outer sidewall of the drill bit at or near the proximal end thereof upon rotation and (ii) for engaging an element on the collet member and urging the collet member outwardly of the collet housing upon counter-rotation; whereby the drill bit may be operatively engaged with and disengaged from the bit fastening member by hand rotation and counter-rotation of the compression member, respectively.

    • An adapter that converts any normal chainsaw into a winching type towing machine for use by hunters who fell large game such as elk or deer, and must haul their fallen prey over rugged and remote terrain. The adapter replaces a chainsaw chain and guide bar, and bolts into the same position. The adapter comprises a drive chain and housing with a cable guide bar in the front and a tow bar in the rear. The housing contains a drive sprocket connected to a cable drum via a transmission that engages or disengages the drive train. An automatic braking system prevents the cable drum from paying out cable when under a load which may occur when the chainsaw motor is idling and a centrifugal clutch has disengaged the drive power. The adapter folds up into a compact unit capable of being transported anywhere. Additionally, the invention is not limited to use by hunters, but may be used whenever a motorized winching operation is called for.

    • Apparatus for splitting logs adapted for use with a power head of a chain saw comprising a screw jack mounted for rotation on the interior of a support channel, the input end of the screw jack being connected through a plurality of reduction gears to a drive sprocket. The screw jack itself is in turn threadably engaged to a travelling axe head conformed for sliding translation within the support channel. A part of the axe head is shaped as a wedge projecting beyond the confines of the channel to advance therealong towards a V-shaped stop bracket. An eliptical cam is mounted for rotation in the thick end of the wedge to be articulated from its narrow alignment to a broad alignment by an articulating lever disposed to advance against one of the legs of the V-shaped stop bracket. As the eliptical cam is thus rotated, expanding the lateral dimension of the axe, separation of the split is achieved.

    • A masonry saw having an engine mounted on one leg of an L-shaped frame with the saw blade being connected to the other leg. A pair of depth wheels are mounted on a guard on the blade and provide a pivot axis for moving the saw between an at rest position and an operational position. The engine is located on the frame in such a position that it will tend to maintain the blade in cutting contact with the work piece in the operational position and in the at rest position maintain the blade out of engagement with the work piece. A modified saw includes a blade remote from the engine and on the opposite side of a frame connected to the engine such that the blade which is misaligned approximately 5* will cut flush against a work piece without interference by any of the structure of the saw equipment.
