    • The present invention relates to a centrifugal separator for separating solid particles from a liquid mixture, said centrifugal separator comprising a rotor body which is rotatable around an axis of rotation, the rotor body having a separation chamber with an inlet for the liquid mixture, at least one liquid outlet for a separated liquid from the liquid mixture, a sludge outlet for the separated solid particles, a screw conveyor adapted to rotate in the rotor body around the axis of rotation, at a speed differing from the rotational speed of the rotor body, for transporting the separated solid particles in the separation chamber towards and out of the sludge outlet, a drive arrangement adapted to rotate the rotor body and the screw conveyor at their respective speeds, and a control unit which is adapted to control the drive arrangement to rotate the rotor body at a first speed during a separation phase and at a second speed, which is lower than the first speed, during a particle discharge phase.

    • A control system for a centrifuge that allows the centrifuge to continue to run when there is a short duration failure or outage of the AC power source. The control system allows the centrifuge to be brought to a stop in a normal shutdown mode where there are longer duration failures or outages of the AC power source. This allows power to be maintained to the pump that lubricates the centrifuge bearings so that the bearings are lubricated during the coast down of the centrifuge and the differential speed of the centrifuge to be controlled during coast down allowing the centrifuge bowl to be cleared of solids so that the centrifuge can be immediately started up at lower vibration levels once power is restored.

    • A decanter centrifuge is disclosed for separating a liquid feed mixture into constituent parts. The decanter centrifuge includes a bowl assembly mounted for rotation about a longitudinal axis. Opposite ends of the bowl assembly are rotatably supported by first and second bearings. A motor is engaged with one end of the bowl assembly for rotating the bowl about the longitudinal axis. A screw conveyor is coaxially mounted within the bowl with a conveyor shaft attached thereto. A gear box is located between the second bearing and the bowl and includes a transmission engaged to the shaft. The transmission rotates the conveyor at a relative speed with respect to the bowl. A plurality of circumferentially spaced posts mount the gear box to the bowl, spacing the gear box apart from the bowl. Effluent discharge ports on the bowl discharge effluent into the space between the bowl and the gear box.

    • A screw decanter centrifuge including a cylindrical bowl rotatable in one direction, a main drive motor coupled to the bowl for rotatably driving the bowl, a screw conveyor which is disposed concentrically in the bowl and which is rotatable in the same direction as the bowl at a differential rotation speed from the bowl, and an induction type screw conveyor motor for driving the screw conveyor. The differential rotation speed is changed in response to a carrying torque of the screw conveyor. An induction type screw conveyor motor is provided for driving the screw conveyor. The induction type screw conveyor motor has a shaft connected directly to, or coupled to, a shaft of the screw conveyor, and the induction type screw conveyor motor is controlled by a speed-torque controller. The speed-torque controller includes a speed controller for calculating the differential rotation speed based on rotations indicated by an induction motor tachometer for detecting a speed of the induction type screw conveyor motor, and on rotations indicated by a bowl tachometer for detecting a speed of the bowl. The speed-torque controller further includes a vector control inverter for independently controlling an exciting current and a torque current of the induction type screw conveyor motor based on a speed command value outputted from the speed controller and an actual speed of the induction type screw conveyor motor outputted from the induction motor tachometer.
