    • A shoe having an anthropomorphic sole that copies the underlying stability, support, and cushioning structures of the human foot. Natural stability is provided by attaching a completely flexible but relatively inelastic shoe sole upper directly to the bottom sole, enveloping the sides of the midsole, instead of attaching it to the top surface of the shoe sole. Doing so puts the flexible side of the shoe upper under tension in reaction to destabilizing sideways forces on the shoe causing it to tilt. That tension force is balanced and in equilibrium because the bottom sole is firmly anchored by body weight, so the destabilizing sideways motion is neutralized by the tension in the flexible sides of the shoe upper. Support and cushioning is provided by shoe sole compartments filled with a pressure-transmitting medium like liquid, gas, or gel. Unlike similar existing systems, direct physical contact occurs between the upper surface and the lower surface of the compartments, providing firm, stable support. Cushioning is provided by the transmitting medium progressively causing tension in the flexible and semi-elastic sides of the shoe sole. The support and cushioning compartments are similar in structure to the fat pads of the human foot, which simultaneously provide both firm support and progressive cushioning.

    • A medical shoe for use in supporting a patient's foot and a method of using same, the medical shoe comprising an out sole, an upper assembly secured to and partially surrounded by the out sole and an insole assembly substantially enclosed by the outsole and the upper assembly. The insole assembly having a plurality of insole layers disposed in the outsole cavity and surrounded by the upper assembly and the outsole circumferential counter. The plurality of insole layers provided to include a first insole layer, a second insole layer a third insole layer and a fourth insole layer wherein the first and second layers are an Ethyl Vinyl Acetate (EVA) material and the second layer has a durometer less than the first layer, the third layer is a Poron material with a durometer less than the second layer, and the fourth layer is an EVA material with a durometer less than the third layer, and the first, second, third, and fourth layers may be assembled in any order as determined by a health care provider.

    • A shoe, particularly an athletic shoe, in which a multilayer assembly is disposed between the midsole and the insole of the shoe, with the multilayer assembly inhibiting the transfer of heat by virtue of a heat resistant layer or film disposed within the multilayer assembly. The multilayer assembly preferably includes a metalized Mylar (polyethylene terepthalate) film which is sandwiched between two layers of strobel material. This arrangement provides an effective and durable design which inhibits the transfer of heat from hot surfaces to the foot. In accordance with a further aspect, an advantageous ventilation system is provided in the insole, with the ventilation system particularly effective since it is shielded from heat utilizing the multilayer assembly.
