    • A television cathode ray picture tube has a narrow neck terminated by a number of electrically conductive low-voltage pins and at least one high-voltage pin extending axially from the neck terminus. The tube according to the invention is characterized by having a base for passing and isolating said pins including a port adjacent to said terminus leading to a cavity surrounding the high-voltage pin. The cavity opens onto said terminus over a substantial portion of the area of the terminus. The port has acceptance means for connection to mating injector means for injecting the cavity with a metered amount of electrically insulative adhesive. The base provides for the injection of the adhesive in the exact location desired, and in an amount effective to fill the cavity and electrically isolate the high-voltage pin and adhere the base to the neck terminus. An improved method is also disclosed for electrically isolating the high-voltage pin and adhering a tube base to the neck terminus.

    • A pulse width limiter is described for extracting horizontal sync pulses from a composite sync signal and applying the extracted sync pulses to a horizontal phase detector. The pulse width limiter includes a signal processing path and a pulse width sensor. The signal processing path has an input terminal for receiving the composite sync pulse and an output terminal which is coupled to the phase detector. A switch couples the input terminal to the output terminal under normal conditions and decouples the input terminal from the output terminal in response to a disabling signal. The pulse width sensor also receives the composite sync pulse and detects the width of each pulse therein. When the pulse width sensor senses that a particular pulse has a width greater than a predetermined width, the sensor applies a disabling signal to the switch in the signal processing path thereby preventing portions of the pulses greater than the predetermined width from being coupled to the phase detector.

    • Apparatus and method is disclosed for spot-knocking a cathode ray picture tube by beneficial arcing between selected electrodes of an electron gun sealed in the evacuated envelope of the tube. The invention is particularly useful in spot-knocking certain cathode ray picture tubes having a resistive arc-suppression means and static elimination system. The picture tube has an inherent capacitance that can store energy in an amount capable of inducing destructive arcing during spot-knocking. In one embodiment of the invention, a bipolar potential is applied across the electrodes to be spot-knocked, resulting in the amount of energy in the induced arcing, for a given applied potential, being very much less than would be the case if a unipolar potential were applied. Other embodiments include resistive means and spark gap means for discharging the voltage between lead-in pins before a destructive arc can occur therebetween.

    • A phasing circuit is described for automatically controlling the phase of an oscillator input to a synchronous detector which demodulates a video signal in a television receiver. A conventional phase locked loop develops an oscillator signal whose phase tracks with variations in the phase of a video intermediate frequency (I.F.) signal applied to the loop. The automatic phasing circuit includes a phase adjustment network for coupling the video I.F. signal to the phase locked loop and for varying the phase of the latter signal input to the loop in response to a phase correction signal. The phase correction signal is preferably developed by a multiplier which senses the video I.F. signal and the input to the phase locked loop and controls the phase adjustment network such that the latter network varies the phase of the video I.F. input to the phase locked loop until the phase of the oscillator signal has a selected phase relationship to the video I.F. signal input to the synchronous detector.

    • A voltage regulator is described for use in a television receiver having a horizontal oscillator for exciting a horizontal sweep system and a power source for energizing the receiver. In a receiver which also includes a voltage source derived from the excited sweep system, the regulator preferably includes an input port for receiving current from the power source and a circuit responsive to that current for initially energizing the horizontal oscillator so that the sweep system becomes excited. The regulator also includes an input/output port for receiving current from the sweep-derived voltage source and an on/off switch which is turned on responsive to the input/output port being driven above a minimum voltage level. The "on" condition of the switch enables a series pass regulator for coupling current from the input port to the input/output port such that the latter port is held at a regulated voltage level. Current at a regulated voltage level is thus available at the input/output port for powering other circuitry within the receiver.

    • An integratable vertical sync separator is described for use in a television receiver. The preferred embodiment includes an integrated capacitor which is charged and alternately discharged by current sources in response to composite sync pulses such that the capacitor develops a relatively high level voltage when vertical sync pulses are received. The voltage developed by the capacitor is sensed by a peak detector for developing a vertical sync output pulse and for producing a feedback signal indicative of the amplitude of the relatively high level voltage on the capacitor. The feedback signal is applied to the current sources which are conditioned to vary the charge and discharge rates of the capacitor for improved performance in sub-standard signal conditions.

The system includes a CCD comb filter receiving a video signal having interleaved luminance and color components, the latter components including a color subcarrier at a nominal frequency. Preferably, the comb filter includes but two CCD devices which receive the input video signal and apply their sampled outputs to a summer to develop combed luminance components and combed color components which occupy different frequency bands. The combed color components include a color subcarrier and sidebands which are translated upward in frequency by a given multiple of the nominal subcarrier frequency. The latter components are applied to a pair of CCD output filters which are clocked to sample the color components at the given multiple of the nominal subcarrier frequency for developing baseband demodulated color signals. The preferred embodiment also provides on-chip vertical peaking of the combed luminance components.
