    • A control system and method for a shared inductor regulator. The regulator includes an inductor and multiple switches to selectively couple the inductor to output, reference and charge nodes. The charge node may be coupled to a battery. An input switch may be included to selectively couple the inductor to a source node. A controller controls the switches to regulate output voltage, charge current, and a source voltage when provided. The inductor current is sensed and used to regulate the output voltage, and to regulate either the charge current or the input voltage. When an external source provides sufficient power, the charging current is regulated. When the source reaches a maximum power set point, the input voltage is maintained at a minimum level. When the source provides insufficient power, the battery is used to add power or to provide sole power.

    • A modulator circuit for a switching regulator including first and second ramp generators, a comparator circuit and a reset circuit. The switching regulator provides a compensation voltage indicative of output voltage error. The ramp generators generate leading- and trailing-edge ramp voltages which are compared to the compensation voltage for determining pulses on a pulse modulation signal. The reset circuit prevents the leading-edge ramp voltage from resetting if the leading-edge ramp voltage has not reached the compensation voltage while ramping. The reset circuit further clamps the leading-edge ramp voltage until the pulse modulation signal is asserted again. In a multiphase configuration, each leading-edge ramp voltage is suspended if any leading-edge ramp voltage is clamped. An offset voltage may be added to the compensation, leading-edge, or trailing-edge voltages when a mode select signal indicates a reduced load condition. The offset voltage may be adjusted based on various operating conditions.

    • A modulator for providing control pulses on a pulse control signal for controlling operation of a DC-DC converter is disclosed which includes a comparator, pulse control logic, a memory circuit and a switch circuit. The comparator compares a timing waveform with a compensation signal and provides a comparison signal with preliminary pulses. The pulse logic circuit receives the comparison signal and provides normal pulses on a normal pulse signal. The pulse logic circuit selects only those preliminary pulses which are provided during a permissible time window of each period of the periodic timing waveform. The memory circuit provides a pulse indication whenever a normal pulse does not occur on the pulse signal during any switching period. The switch circuit selects between the normal pulse signal and the comparison signal based on the pulse indication for providing the control pulses.

    • A PWM control circuit for a voltage regulator including a compensation network, a ramp generator providing a ramp voltage, an offset adjust circuit and a comparator circuit. The compensation network senses the output voltage, receives a reference voltage, and outputs a compensation voltage. The offset adjust circuit adjusts a selected one of the ramp voltage and the compensation voltage based on the reference voltage. The comparator circuit compares the compensation voltage with the ramp voltage and provides a PWM signal for controlling the output voltage. The offset adjust circuit may generate an offset voltage based on the reference voltage and a gain G of the voltage regulator. The offset adjust circuit may subtract the offset voltage from either the ramp voltage or the compensation voltage to provide an adjusted voltage to the comparator circuit.
