    • The present invention is a method for releasing at least a part of a connection in a two-layer communication network that includes a first communication network layer adapted to establish or which establishes a communication channel to a terminal, and a second communication network layer adapted to establish or which establishes an application layer connection. The method includes deciding in one of the first and second communication network layers that at least the part of the connection associated with the terminal is to be released, and forwarding the decision from the one of the communication network layers in which the decision has been taken, to the other of the communication network layers via an interface between the first and second communication network layers.

    • The invention provides a method and device which may perform a combined attach and communication connection establishment procedure when attaching an equipment such as a mobile station to a mobile communication network. An attach request sent form the equipment may initiate this combined attach and communication connection establishment process. In the Home Location Register, communication connection parameters are set as default values which maybe automatically selected, for instance when receiving a combined attach and communication connection establishment request. The combined attach and communication connection establishment process reduces the signaling load in the network and speeds up communication connection establishment.

    • The invention relates to a method and system for connecting a user equipment to a network in abnormal situations normally not allowing the network element to conduct a call. For establishing an emergency session, the network element is adapted to send an indication to the network, the network, when receiving the indication, accepting the call request and establishing the connection for conducting the emergency session.As an alternative, the network, when receiving the indication, may reject the session request whereupon the user equipment initiates an Anonymous Access PDP Activation procedure with the network. To save time, the network, when receiving the indication, may directly return an Anonymous Access PDP Activation Request message to the user equipment for initiating the Anonymous Access PDP Activation procedure. The network, when receiving the session request including the called number, may be adapted to analyze the called number and, when detecting that the called number is an emergency number, to accept the call request and establish the connection for conducting the emergency session.

    • A method for performing charging in a telecommunications system, comprising: storing at a subscriber information store subscription information including charging arrangement information indicative of the charging arrangement for a first communication terminal operating in the telecommunications system; providing by means of packet data interface apparatus packet data communication services to the first terminal, the packet data interface apparatus being capable of interfacing between the first communication terminal and a packet-switched data link to another communications terminal; generating by means of the packet data interface apparatus charging messages indicative of the usage of the packet data communication services by the first terminal; transferring the charging messages to charging apparatus; and performing by means of the charging apparatus a charging operation to attribute to a subscriber for the first communications terminal a charge for use of the communication services by the first terminal; the method further including the steps of: transferring the charging arrangement information to the packet data interface apparatus; and storing at the packet data interface apparatus the charging arrangement information for the first communication terminal; and wherein the step of generating charging messages comprises generating the said charging messages dependant on the charging arrangement information for the first communication terminal.
