摘要： An ignition timing correcting system generates a reference signal at a reference angular position of a rotating internal combustion engine and an ignition signal leading it by a constant phase. In response to a control signal from a movable tap on a potentiometer, the ignition signal is normally retarded in phase to form a retarded ignition signal. The phase comparison of the two signals produces an advance or a retardation signal formed of a pulse train having a pulse-width corresponding to a phase difference between the two ignition signals. During the idling of the engine, the correcting signal drives forwardly or reversely an electric reversible motor to move the tap on the potentiometer to adjust the control signal. During the knocking of the engine, a knocking sensed signal is added to the control signal from the potentiometer to further retard the ignition signal. During the idling of the engine, the knocking sensed signal is disabled to retard the ignition signal.

The terminal signal operation apparatus includes a signal separation circuit for detecting the control signals transmitted from the central operation apparatus, a driving circuit whose input is connected to the output of the signal separation circuit for driving an electrical device in accordance with the control signals, a return signal generating circuit for generating a signal for transmission to the central operation apparatus upon detection of a malfunction of the electrical device or a malfunction of the signal source or a signal from the signal source so that the signals in both directions between the terminal signal operation apparatus and the central operation apparatus can be processed by a single circuit.

The optical element is held through a holding member by the casing. The holding member is uprightly held at one edge portion thereof on an inside surface of the casing, and secures the optical element at the other edge portion thereof. The holding member has a shape that causes a thermal deformation in which a leaning direction of the other edge portion is opposite to a leaning direction of the one edge portion due to a thermal deformation of the inside surface of the casing when a temperature of the casing rises.
