    • An image forming apparatus may include an image reading area reading an original image and preparing image information thereof, an image forming area forming an image on a sheet-shaped recording medium based on the image information, and a discharging area located therebetween, at least opening in front and including an outlet discharging the sheet-shaped recording medium with a space connected thereto, wherein at least the discharging area further includes at least an inhibitor inhibiting an object blocking discharge of the sheet-shaped recording medium from approaching the outlet through the space. Further, an image forming apparatus may include a fixer fixing an image on a sheet-shaped recording medium upon application of heat, a tray receiving the sheet-shaped recording medium, a thermodetector detecting a temperature near the tray; and an annunciator alarming that it is dangerous to take out the sheet-shaped recording medium from the tray when the temperature is not lower than a desired or predetermined temperature.

    • An image forming apparatus of the present invention includes a latent image forming device for forming a latent image on an image carrier and a developing device for developing the latent image with toner to thereby form a corresponding toner image. The surface of an intermediate image transfer body is movable and includes an high-resistance layer having a volume resistivity of 1010 &OHgr;·cm or above. A primary image transferring device transfers the toner image from the image carrier to the intermediate image transfer body. Secondary image transferring device transfers the toner image from the intermediate image transfer body to a sheet. A polarization uniforming device uniforms, at the beginning of an image forming operation, polarization left in the high-resistance layer while preserving the polarity of the polarization after the surface of the intermediate image transfer body has started moving, but before the toner image is transferred from the image carrier to the secondary image transfer body.

    • In a multicolor image-forming apparatus having a photoelectric sensor for detecting the amount of toner of an unfixed toner image adhering onto a photosensitive element, and a toner density sensor for detecting the density of a developer in a developing machine to form a multicolor image by overlapping the toner images having a plurality of colors, a color-balance control method comprises the steps of correcting a setting value of an output of the toner density sensor of the developing machine in accordance with the change in amount of toner adhering onto a photosensitive element detected by the photoelectric sensor with respect to a high density section; setting an allowable range of the toner density in advance in the developing machine with respect to the toner having at least one color; setting the amount of toner adhering onto a photosensitive element of the at least one color as a reference when the toner density is changed outside the allowable range; and correcting the amount of toner adhering onto a photosensitive element of the other color in accordance with the reference. With respect to a half-tone section, the output of the photoelectric sensor may be corrected by controlling the exposure amount. With respect to the high density section, the output of the toner density sensor may be corrected in a predetermined way when the toner density is changed.

A control device provides control such that in a standby state prior to starting the image forming, the distance from the mark detector to the downstream mark, viewed with respect to the direction of rotation of the intermediate transfer body, is always longer than a corresponding distance of the photosensitive body from a downstream position of the electrifying device with respect to the direction of rotation of the photosensitive body to the primary transfer section.

    • An image forming apparatus includes paper trays to contain and feed a recording sheet on which a toner image is transferred; status sensors to detect a storage status of the recording sheet contained in the paper trays; a sheet sensor to detect a smoothness of the recording sheet; a memory to store detection values of the smoothness detected by the sheet sensor; a fixing device to heat and press the toner image transferred onto the recording sheet and fix it onto the recording sheet; and a control circuit to determine a target fixing temperature of the fixing device based on the detection values stored in the memory. The control circuit determines the target fixing temperature for successive recording sheets depending on the detected smoothness, and resets the detection values stored in the memory to zero when the status sensors detect a change in the storage status of the paper trays.
