    • In accordance with the teachings described herein, systems and methods are provided for accessing contact information on a communication device. A communication subsystem may be used to send and receive communications over a communication network. A memory module may be used to store data and program information, including a plurality of contact records. A processor may be used to store and retrieve data in the memory module, execute programs stored in the memory module, and cause the communication subsystem to transmit and receive communications over the communication network. A contact information logic unit program may be stored in the memory module and executed by the processor. The contact information logic unit program may be used to cause the communication device to identify a network identifier in a communication, compare the network identifier with contact information in the plurality of contact records stored in the memory module to identify contact information matching the network identifier, and if contact information is identified in more than one contact record matching the network identifier, then display a contact record field than is associated with each of the identified contact records.

    • A voicemail system apparatus produces a voicemail notification message corresponding to a voicemail message received and saved at a voicemail system, and causes the voicemail notification message to be sent to a mobile device. Subsequently, the apparatus causes a voicemail deletion notification message to be sent to the mobile device, where the voicemail deletion notification message indicates that the voicemail message will be deleted by the voicemail system. In response to expiration of a voicemail message time expiration period associated with the voicemail message, the apparatus deletes the voicemail message at the voicemail system. On the other hand, prior to expiration of the voicemail message time expiration period, and in response to receiving a save command from the mobile device for resaving the voicemail message, the apparatus saves the voicemail message at the voicemail system and updates the voicemail message time expiration period.

    • Techniques for use in a mobile telephone for configuring voice mailbox configuration information at a remote voicemail system for storage in association with a voice mailbox of the mobile telephone. The mobile telephone displays, in a GUI, a user input prompt for initializing or changing the information. In response to the user input prompt, the mobile telephone receives the information that is input via the GUI and stores the information in memory. After receiving and storing the information, the mobile telephone initiates a connection with the system via a wireless network. The mobile telephone transmits, via the wireless network, and over the connection to the system, the stored information and a command for initializing or changing the information of the voice mailbox at the system. The mobile telephone accesses, via the wireless network, voicemail from the voice mailbox of the system which utilizes the information.

    • In one illustrative example disclosed, a mobile communication device includes a user interface, a processor, and a wireless transmitter. The user interface includes, among other things, a visual display which is part of a graphical user interface (GUI). For configuring a voice mailbox at a remote voicemail system, the GUI visually displays a user input prompt for voice mailbox configuration information which corresponds to an audible user input prompt provided by the voicemail system. The user input prompt may be, for example, a prompt for a user password, an audible voicemail greeting, or an audible user name for the voice mailbox. Through the user interface, the voice mailbox configuration information is received by the processor in response to the user input prompt and transmitted to the voicemail system by the wireless transmitter. Advantageously, the mobile device provides a consistent user-friendly GUI for voice mailbox configuration as well as for its primary applications.
