    • The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device including an active matrix substrate with improved characteristics and providing high-contrast between black and white displays. The active matrix substrate of the present invention is an active matrix substrate, including: pixel electrodes arranged in a matrix pattern; a source line extending in a column direction and overlapping with any adjacent two of the pixel electrodes in a row direction; and a storage capacitor line extending in the row direction and intersecting with the source line, wherein the pixel electrodes, the source line, and the storage capacitor line are disposed in different layers stacked with an insulating film therebetween, the source line has bend points below both of the adjacent two row pixel electrodes and has a crossing portion passing across a space between the adjacent two row pixel electrodes, the storage capacitor line has a portion extending in the column direction and overlapping with the space between the adjacent two row pixel electrodes, and the source line overlaps with the storage capacitor line substantially only at an intersection thereof.

    • An active matrix substrate (10) included in a liquid crystal display device of the present invention is arranged such that (i) source bus lines (12) (signal wires) are disposed so that each of the source bus lines (i) partially overlaps its corresponding pixel electrodes (14) adjacent to each other along a direction in which gate bus lines (11) (scanning wires) extend and (ii) leads from a border between the pixel electrodes (14) toward a central part of each of the pixel electrodes (14), and in the meantime, the source bus lines (12) are disposed so that at least part of overlap between each of the source bus lines (12) and the pixel electrodes (14) overlaps ribs (26) (orientation-changing sections) that change orientation of liquid crystal molecules contained in a liquid crystal layer. This achieves a liquid crystal display device capable of reducing display unevenness of an image without decreasing an aperture ratio even in a case where signal wires are disposed so that each of them leads toward central parts of corresponding pixel electrodes.

According to the present invention, there is provided a liquid crystal display device which includes a pair of substrates spaced at a distance from each other by a plurality of columnar spacers, and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the pair of substrates, and in which a pixel is formed by picture elements of a plurality of colors, the liquid crystal display device being featured in that one of the pair of substrates includes colored layers of a plurality of colors, and a light shielding layer, in that at least one of the colored layers of the plurality of colors has a region in which a colored layer of the same color is integrally arranged on respective picture elements adjacent to each other, and has a straight portion and an extension portion extending from the straight portion, in that at least one of the plurality of columnar spacers is provided at a position overlapping with the extension portion, and has a substantially rhombus-shaped surface or a substantially circular surface, which is in contact with the substrate, and the contour line of the extension portion has a shape corresponding to the contour line of the columnar spacer provided at the position overlapping with the extension portion.
