    • A ceiling fan mounting system (10) is disclosed which includes an upper pre-mounted assembly (12) and a lower hanging assembly (13). The upper pre-mounted assembly includes a mounting plate (14) with a peripheral flange (16) having threaded mounting holes (17) therein. The upper assembly also includes a hanger (21) coupled to the mounting plate and having a stepped ball holding flange (23) with a beveled interior facing surface (24). The lower hanging assembly includes a downrod (29) coupled to a ball joint (31) and a canopy (32). The ball joint is configured to be received within the hanger ball holding flange and has a series of deformable ridges (33). The canopy includes a central opening defined by a central, stepped flange (35) adapted to receive and nest flushly against the exterior of the hanger ball holding flange. The canopy stepped flange fits flushly against the exterior of the hanger ball holding flange so as to encircle the C-shaped holding flange.

The downrod has a lower end (20) having a select outside diameter and a pair of mutually aligned holes (21) therethrough. The downrod receiver has a tubular neck portion (22) having an internal channel (23) with an internal diameter configured to receive the lower end of the downrod. The neck portion has an oblong first mounting hole (24) and a generally round second mounting hole (25). The downrod receiver also includes a mounting bolt (26) and a mounting nut (27) configured to be threadably received upon mounting bolt. Mounting bolt has an oblong head (29) configured to be nestably received within oblong first mounting hole and a shank (31) extending from head. The oblong head includes an inboard or inwardly facing surface (32) which is curved to conform with and fit snugly against the exterior of the downrod.

The motor includes a bottom mounting plate (14) that rotates and thereby drives an annular array of blade irons (16), each having a blade (17) mounted thereto in conventional fashion.     • A ceiling fan blade iron includes a blade mounting portion 23 with a top surface 26 facing the ceiling, a movable blade fastener 24, and two fixed or stationary mounting catches 27 coupled to and extending from the top surface 26. The blade iron is configured to mate with a blade 15 having two catch mounting holes 17 and a fastener mounting hole 18. Each catch 27 has an upright wall portion 31 and a horizontal top portion 32. The moveable blade fastener 24 has a hand gripping portion 35, a mid-member 36 having an elongated slot 37 therein, an upright abutment portion 38, and a horizontal, outboard extending stop portion 39 extending from the abutment portion. A mounting screw 40 extends through the slot and is threadably received within a threaded mounting hole within the blade iron to allow sliding movement of the fastener relative to the blade iron.

    • A system for suspending a ceiling fan is provided which allows the ceiling fan to pivot, to accommodate vaulted or sloped ceilings, while preventing the ceiling fan from rotating about a longitudinal centerline axis of the fan. The system includes a hollow canopy defining an interior space and having an upper end portion, which is operatively attachable to a support structure such as the ceiling. The canopy further includes a lower end portion and a central, body portion extending between the upper and lower end portions. The canopy includes a seat which is connected to and extends upwardly from the lower end portion, and a guide which is also connected to the lower end portion and extends upwardly therefrom. The guide has an inner surface which forms a portion of the inner surface of the seat and defines a receptacle which extends through the seat and a bottom surface of the canopy. The seat defines an aperture which also extends through the bottom surface of the canopy. A ball is pivotally engaged with the canopy seat and is connected to a stationary portion of the ceiling fan. A pin is attached to the ball and protrudes radially outwardly from the outer surface of the ball, with the pin being engaged in the receptacle of the canopy guide. The pin has a longitudinal centerline axis which extends through a center of the outer surface of the ball and is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal centerline axis of the ceiling fan. The ball and ceiling fan pivot about the centerline axis of the pin. The system may also include a hollow sleeve connected to the stationary portion of the ceiling fan, such as an upper end portion of a downrod of the ceiling fan. In this instance, the ball is disposed in surrounding relationship with the hollow sleeve and frictionally engages the sleeve.

    • A hanging bracket is initially secured to an electric outlet box. The hanging bracket includes on one of its ends, two canopy hooks with a screw hole located therebetween. The other end of the hanging bracket includes a single screw hole. A canopy includes two spaced slots shaped and located to receive the two canopy hooks of the hanging bracket. With the canopy hooks extending through the corresponding slots in the canopy, a fan assembly is pivotally mounted on the hanging bracket. It is then possible to connect the lead wires of the outlet box and the wires of the fan assembly. All that is then required is to pivot the canopy with the associated fan assembly about the canopy hooks into a vertical orientation. No additional lifting of the fan assembly independent of the fan assembly being supported by the hanging bracket is required. A single screw is inserted through the canopy into the screw hole in the hanging bracket at the end of the hanging bracket opposite to the end which includes the canopy hooks. There is an automatic alignment between the hole in the canopy and the hole in the hanging bracket when the fan assembly is pivoted into a vertical orientation. As another safety precaution, a second screw is inserted through the screw hole in the canopy and into the screw hole in the hanging bracket located between the two canopy hooks.

    • A modular ceiling fan assembly and system is disclosed in which the functioning components are standardized, including standardized connections for their assembly, and multiple components are provided with a plurality of alternate parts for assembly into a variety of uniquely differentiating configurations, styles and appearance without substantially increasing the cost to the manufacturer. The motor platform, including the motor, shafts, switch housing and electrical components and wiring, are standardized into a single configuration, and the holes for mounting the fan blades on the lower surface and/or upper surface of the rotor have a standardized size and spacing. A modular motor housing is formed from multiple horizontal sections, preferably two or three, with a standardized height to accommodate the common single motor platform. The various sections of the modular motor housing are selected in order to produce a variety of uniquely different appearances. Alternative modular blade attachments, including blade ring and paddle assemblies, blade ramps and blade irons, with and without blade rings, are configured to be mounted in the standardized mounting holes of the rotor. These components, together with the fan blades, have standardized hole spacing for interchangeable assembly of components into differentiating fan styles. As a result, top mounted fan styles, bottom mounted fan styles, and mid-body fan styles can be assembled from the modular components. Standardized packing cushion materials are also disclosed.
