    • A continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) system in combination with a device for positioning a breathing apparatus over a breathing orifice in the head of a person, the person having an occipital lobe and an axis of symmetry, the device including an occipital anchor for anchoring against the head of the person beneath the occipital lobe of the person. The device further including a forward anchor for anchoring against a forward portion of the person's head. A spring connector connects the forward anchor and the occipital anchor, and biases the occipital anchor against the head of the person beneath the occipital lobe and the forward anchor against the corresponding portion of the person's head so as to attach the device to the person's head. The occipital anchor, the forward anchor and the spring connector are substantially aligned along the axis of symmetry of the person's head. The mount is connected to the spring connector for mounting the apparatus so as to locate the apparatus over the orifice.

    • A respiratory mask is provided according to the invention. The respiratory mask includes a respiratory interface adapted to input and output a gas to a respiratory system of a person, a hat having a substantially semi-hemispheric portion adapted to fit over a head of the person and a brim extending outwardly from at least a front portion of the semi-hemispheric portion, and a hose having a proximal end connected to the respiratory interface and passing through the brim and attached to the semi-hemispheric portion, wherein the brim positions and retains the hose, with a distal end of the hose capable of being connected to a gas supply.

    • A method and apparatus for calculating the area of an image, including the steps of selecting an image and determining a first radial line segment from the center of the image. The second step is locating at least one local minima along the first radial line segment, the minima being located by measuring the average brightness for a region immediately adjacent to it. The darkest region of the image is followed through a plurality of angles theta covering 360 degrees about the center by finding the local minimum on a ruler which is closest to the local minimum of a radial line segment adjacent to the segment for angle theta -1. The area is determined by summing the areas of individual wedge shaped slices defined by theta and theta -1.
