    • A reduced product height/thickness projector includes an illuminator, an electro-optic modulator, a projection system, a collector lens, and associated housing. The illuminator including a light source that emits an illumination light flux, a first lens array having a plurality of first lenslets that divide the illumination light flux from the light source into a plurality of sub-light fluxes, a second lens array having a plurality of second lenslets corresponding to the plurality of first lenslets, and a superimposing lens that superimposes the sub-light fluxes from the second lens array on an illuminated area. The central axis of the image formation area of the electro-optic modulator and the lens optical axis of the superimposing lens is shifted from the light source optical axis of the light source. The lens optical axis of the collector lens is shifted opposite from the central axis of the image formation area of the electro-optic modulator.

    • A projector, includes: a light source device; an optical modulator arranged on an illumination optical axis of a light beam irradiated by the light source device to modulate the light beam in accordance with image information and form an optical image; a projection lens that enlarges the optical image formed by the optical modulator and projects the optical image; and an optical converter arranged between the optical modulator and the projection lens and provided with an optical conversion area that optically converts the incident light beam, in which the optical conversion area of the optical converter is formed in a profile on which substantially all of the light beams irradiated from the optical modulator to be irradiated from the projection lens as the optical image are incident, the optical modulator has a center axis passing though the center of an optical image formation area of the optical modulator and being parallel to the illumination optical axis, the projection lens is so arranged that a lens optical axis of the projection lens is deviated in parallel relative to the center axis of the optical modulator, and the center axis passing through the center of the optical conversion area and being parallel to the illumination optical axis is positioned within a range between: a plane orthogonal to a deviation direction of the lens optical axis of the projection lens relative to the center axis of the optical modulator and including the center axis of the optical modulator; and a plane orthogonal to the deviation direction and including the lens optical axis.

    • The invention makes it easier to perform adjustments for bringing into conformity an illuminating area of an illuminating color light beam. A projector in accordance with the invention includes an illumination optical system; a color light separation optical system that separates illumination light into illumination light beams of a plurality of colors; a plurality of electro-optical devices that convert the illumination light beams of a plurality of colors into light beams of a plurality of colors; a color light synthesizing optical system that synthesizes the converted light beams of a plurality of colors that exit from the plurality of electro-optical devices; a projection optical system that projects the color image that is represented by the synthesized light beam; and a relay optical system that is provided in a path of at least one color illumination light beam. The relay optical system includes an adjusting device that adjusts the location of at least one of a plurality of lenses of the relay optical system in an optical axis direction.
