    • When information of one frame such as an image is displayed by performing a scanning operation with respect to line electrodes consisting of a plurality of electrodes extending in a line direction on one substrate and column electrodes consisting of a plurality electrodes extending in a column direction on the other substrate in such a manner that a voltage is applied to the line electrodes from one end to the other end, a voltage for generating a cross-talk in the first color and a voltage for generating a cross-talk in the second color are applied to all the cells of a display portion once or more times respectively after one frame is displayed. Specifically, two or more lines are added at the end of the scanning operation, and a drive, in which a display of the first color and a display of the second color are performed one or more times respectively, is performed after one scanning operation is finished (first aspect). Moreover, as a driving voltage applied to the electrodes for generating an electrostatic field, use is made of a pulse voltage which is composed of a plurality of voltages consisting of a driving voltage generating an ON state and a voltage of not larger than a threshold value, at which the display media start to move, generating an OFF state (second aspect). Further, when a pixel rewriting operation is performed once, a plurality of pulses are applied, and, during the one pixel rewriting operation, a driving waveform is adjusted in such a manner that a polarity of a cross-talk voltage applied to a non-rewriting pixel is not changed (third aspect).

    • The information display system has: a display panel portion 100, in which display media are sealed in a closed space between opposed two substrates, at least one substrate being transparent, and, in which the display media, to which an electrostatic filed is applied, are made to move so as to display information such as an image; and a control CPU 101 constantly connected to the display panel portion 100. In the control CPU, a driving program is installed, and, in the case that displayed information on the display panel portion 100 is continuously displayed without varying for more than a predetermined time (for example, one day or one week), an action, such that the displayed information is changed back to an original display information after making even or reversing an electric field distribution of the display media, is performed at least one time. Thereby, the information display system suitable for an electric POP such as an electric shelf label is provided, in which driving characteristics are not affected, even if the same information is continuously displayed for a long time.

    • A height sensor for determining the height from a surface to be measured on the basis of an optical path length from a light-emitting element to the surface to be measured includes: a first light-emitting element and a second light-emitting element disposed at positions spaced apart from the surface to be measured; a mirror for reflecting at least one of a beam of light emitted from the first light-emitting element and a beam of light emitted from the second light-emitting element; and a light-receiving element for receiving the beams emitted by the first and second light-emitting elements and reflected by the surface to be measured and for outputting a signal corresponding to a quantity of light received. The mirror is arranged to cause respective optical paths of the beams emitted from the first and second light-emitting elements to be brought into close proximity to each other. Another mirror is provided for producing an optical path difference between the respective optical path lengths from the first and second light-emitting elements to the surface to be measured.
