    • A tightening force of a lockup clutch (2) exerted between a pump impeller (1a) connected to an engine (21) and a turbine runner (1b) connected to an automatic transmission (23) is controlled by a controller (5). The controller (5) determines a target relative rotation speed of the pump impeller (1a) and the turbine runner (1b), and performs feedback control of the tightening force such that the difference between the target relative rotation speed and the real relative rotation speed is decreased. The controller (5) also performs feedforward control of the tightening force. When the variation of the relative rotation speed due to the feedforward control has exceeded the predetermined value, the controller (5) corrects the feedback control amount to moderate the effect of the variation, thereby suppressing sudden change in the tightening force.

    • An image read apparatus which is capable of implementing two-dimensional image reading with high resolution and high picture quality by using a linear image sensor. A vertical scanning mechanism inputs light imaged by a lens from a required sub-image of the read manuscript to a linear image sensor successively, before a sample and hold circuit samples part of an image signal outputted from the linear image sensor. An amplification factor control circuit changes an amplification factor which amplifies or attenuates the image signal in answer to a negative feedback input signal outputted from the sample and hold circuit. The change of the amplification factor causes the light component of the two-dimensional image signal other than the image to be removed due to a change of the amplification factor to be read. Thus, the sampled part of the image signal from the linear image sensor causes the amplification factor of the image signal to be subjected to the negative feedback. The negative feedback essentially removes or minimizes negative influences which affect the image signal caused by light-and-shade change of the frequency corresponding to the lamp line. The image read apparatus is consequently capable of implementing correction without reference to exposed time of the linear image sensor.

    • In a scanner unit for An overhead image scanner, a rotatably mounted mirror reflects light from a surface to be scanned off to a focusing lens to form an optical image of a scanned line on a linear image sensor. An extension arm is connected to the minor for rotation therewith. To one end of the arm is attached an electromagnetic drive system and to the other end a light reflecting member which is formed with a multiplicity of microscopically spaced apart tracks running parallel to the length of the extension arm. A laser beam spot is formed on the reflecting member and a photodiode array detects reflections therefrom to produce a plurality of output signals representative of the amounts of reflections incident on different areas of the array. The outputs of the photodiode array are processed to produce a tracking error pulse when the minor is rotated by a predetermined amount of arc and a control current is supplied to the electromagnetic drive system so that the mirror is driven at a substantially constant speed. The tracking error pulse is supplied to the linear image sensor to cause the optical image of the scanned line to be converted to an electrical signal.
