    • A belt meandering preventing device includes a belt displacement detection unit detecting the amount of displacement in a belt width direction of an endless belt rotatably stretched over support parts; and a belt meandering correction unit correcting the displacement in the belt width direction of the endless belt based on the amount of displacement detected by the belt displacement detection unit. The belt displacement detection unit includes a moving part moving in association with the displacement of the endless belt or an edge of the endless belt in the belt width direction and optical sensors outputting signals with output levels corresponding to the proportions of the moving part in optical paths of the optical sensors. The optical sensors are arranged such that the output levels of the optical sensors change as the endless belt is displaced in the belt width direction in a predetermined high-resolution detection range.

    • A mark sensing device of the present invention senses marks formed on a turnable body in a preselected periodic pattern in a direction of movement of the turnable body with light emitted from a light source. A slit mask is formed with slits for splitting the light emitted from the light source. A light receiving portion receives the light thus split and then incident on the mark. The slits of the slit mask each belong to either one of two regions one of which is shifted from the other by one-half of the period of the periodic pattern. The light receiving portion receives the light incident on the mark in each of the two regions and converts the light received to two electric signals. A control signal for controlling the amount of movement of the turnable body is produced from the two electric signals.

    • A belt moving device of the present invention includes a drive shaft for moving the belt and a drive transfer line for transferring the output torque of a motor to the drive shaft. A marker sensor senses a marker positioned on the belt to thereby determine the position of the belt in the direction of movement. A rotation condition sensor senses the rotation condition of the drive shaft. A first correction information generating circuit generates, based on the output of the marker sensor, correction information for correcting the position of the belt. A second correction information generating circuit generates, based on the output of the rotation condition sensor, correction information for correcting the rotation condition of the drive shaft. A controller controls the movement of the motor in accordance with the correction information output from the first and second correction information generating circuits.
