摘要： A facsimile server system which can be utilized similarly to a stand-alone FAX. A remote FAX includes a scanner, a printer and a FAX communication unit. A client delivers document data to a FAX server, and makes a request for FAX transmission/printing. The FAX server expands the document data requested to be transmitted, into image data, and it transfers the image data to the appropriate remote FAX and gives a command for the FAX transmission/printing. When instructed to perform FAX transmission directly by a user, the remote FAX accepts the image of a handwritten document, and it subsequently delivers the image data of the document to the FAX server and makes a request for the FAX transmission. Besides, when the remote FAX has been commanded to scan image data or has received image data as FAX reception, it delivers the scanned image data or the received image data to the FAX server. Then, the FAX server accumulates the image data and offers them to the client in accordance with a retrieval process.

摘要： A distributed information processing system which includes a server having a resume-request processor and clients having resume-request units or processor. An user at the client site operates a resume switch to save an operation state of the client in the server's magnetic disc, and resume it from the server's magnetic disc. The operation state includes contents of the main memory, contents of the display memory, values of the I/O registers for peripheral devices, and information about the file of the server being used by the application program run by the user. The user is able to use any client of the system in the same situation including a connection state between the file and the application program as before.

When the processors concurrently request the execution of one OS process, data indicating that the requested OS process is in a ready state is loaded into a memory. The other processors repeatedly make an access to the data during the course of the execution of the user's task to check to see whether the ready-state OS process is present or not. A processor when detecting the ready-state OS process ceases the execution of the user's program and executes that OS process.

摘要： A database access system for a distributed system, in which the database access load is distributed among a plurality of gateways, and an arbitrary character code set can be used for database access. After the lapse of a predetermined time length, processings for particular database access are terminated. An error of a DBMS or a component on the gateway is detected by a client. The gateway detects an error of the client in connection. The client notifies the character code set identification information of the character code used for outputting the request to the gateway, and the gateway converts the character code for the request and a response to the client. The gateway receives an access request, secures the connection with a database access language conversion unit, and sends the language converted to a DBMS. In the absence of a response after the lapse of a predetermined time length, the connection with the database access language conversion unit is terminated and an error is notified to the client. Also, an error monitor request is outputted at regular intervals of time, and an error is notified to the client in the case where there is no response to the error monitor request after the lapse of a predetermined time length.
