    • A reusable distributed computing framework may be established in which contributors of computing resources may participate by using a web browser to visit a web page that incorporates a distributed computing participation component. A distributed computing job provider may submit distributed computing jobs to a web-based distributed computing service. A distributed computing job may include browser-executable code in accordance with a particular distributed computing programmatic interface and data to be processed by the browser-executable code. The web-based distributed computing service may assign independently processable portions of the job data to browsers visiting a donor page for processing with the job code. Results returned by the donor browsers may be indexed and made available in real-time, as may a status of the distributed computing job such as with respect to processing the job data.

    • Techniques for content segment optimization are disclosed. In one embodiment, the method for content segment optimization comprises receiving a user selection of a content item available on a network resource, providing a segment of the content item to a user for accessing, recording user activity on the network resource subsequent to the user accessing the content item segment, determining a type of user activity with respect to the content item based on the recorded user activity, and assigning a score to the segment provided to the user. The assigned score corresponds to the determined type of user activity with respect to the content item. Scores for each segment of the content item provided to users are combined to select a representative segment for the content item. The user activity includes purchasing the item, renting the item, adding the item to wishlist, or providing a review of the item.

    • The present invention provides a method and/or system for extracting or scraping links, which may be in the form of uniform resource locators (URLs), from an information source such as a Web page displayed on a Web browser, based on a rule set or a template, or based on a selection of links, and adding the extracted or scraped links to another interface in order to facilitate navigating the extracted links. The extracted or scraped links are selectable by a user of the interface to cause the Web browser to display information corresponding to the selected links listed in the interface. Controls associated with the interface may allow the user to move forward and backward through the links listed in the interface.

    • Techniques for optimizing a search are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method for optimizing search on a Web site comprises: receiving from a client computing device a first search request including a first search term, retrieving and rendering to the client computing device first search results including one or more items corresponding to the first search term included in the first search request, receiving from the client computing device a second search request associated with an item of the one or more items rendered with the first search results, retrieving one or more second search terms behaviorally associated with the selected item, and retrieving and rendering to the client computing device second search results corresponding to the one or more second search terms. The second search results may be rendered “in-line.”
