    • Techniques involving network access are disclosed. For example, an apparatus may include multiple radio modules that may each communicate according to a corresponding wireless access technology. The apparatus may further include a storage medium and an access coordination module. Multiple consolidated access profiles may be stored by the storage medium. Each of these consolidated access profiles may correspond to a locality and may include individual network access parameters or profiles for each radio module. Based on an assessed locality of the apparatus, the access coordination module may select a consolidated access profile, and provide associated information to the multiple radio modules. This associated information may include (or point to) individual network access profiles or parameters. Thus, from this information, the radio modules may identify and acquire networks in a streamlined manner.

    • Motion-based handoff control techniques are disclosed. For example, an apparatus may include a signal strength determination module, a motion determination module, and a handoff controller. The signal strength determination module generates signal strength information corresponding to the strength of a wireless signal received from a first wireless link. From this information, the motion determination module determines a motion characteristic of the apparatus. Based on the motion characteristic, the handoff controller performs handoff operations for a second wireless link. In this manner, handoff operations may be tailored to the operational characteristics of the apparatus. For instance, certain handoff operations may be halted when the motion characteristic indicates the apparatus having a substantially stationary position. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

    • A method and apparatus for adapting transmission to improve quality of service in a mobile wireless device that includes an application processor and a transceiver. An application service connection is established between the mobile wireless device and a remote device. The transceiver in the mobile wireless device monitors real time properties of a radio frequency access link that transports packets for the application service between the mobile wireless device and a wireless communication network. The transceiver provides local feedback to the application processor of updated values of the monitored real time properties. The application processor adjusts packet data generation and transmission in response to the updated values to manage quality of service for the application service connection. Packet data transmission adjustment includes active management of queues in the transceiver by the application processor, selectively dropping packets based on packet classifications and the local feedback information provided to the application processor.
