    • Solder balls are offset in the horizontal direction from fixing portions while their positional accuracy is ensured, and signal paths are shortened in a ball grid array IC socket. Contacts fixed to contact hosing apertures of a housing include base portions, contact arms, and terminal portions that extend from the lower ends of the base portions toward a circuit board. The contact arms protrude so as to extend upward and then are bent unidirectionally. The terminal portions are constituted by transition portions that link solder ball pads to the base portions, while offsetting the solder ball pads in the same direction as the contact arms. The transition portions include vertical portions which are substantially perpendicular to the solder ball pads or inclined portions angled upwardly from the solder ball pads. The vertical or inclined portions prevent movement of the solder balls, thereby preventing positional misalignment and deformation thereof.

    • A receiver receives FM multiplex broadcast data of both RDS and DARC systems by using one front end. A BIC detection circuit (101) detects a block identification code (BIC) included in received data. A coincidence/non-coincidence detection circuit (104) judges whether or not a BIC detection timing is correct and emits a coincidence/non-coincidence pulse. A forward protection circuit (106) counts a frequency of outputs of non-coincidence pulses and retains an established synchronous condition until the counted value exceeds a predetermined value. Then, a forward protection control circuit (108) inhibits the forward protection circuit from performing a count operation while a search is performed for selecting a station. Also, a rearward protection circuit (105) counts a frequency of outputs of coincidence pulses and establishes a synchronous condition when the counted value reaches a predetermined value. Further, a rearward protection control circuit (800) inhibits the rearward protection circuit from performing a count operation while a search is performed.

    • Received signals are digitized by a comparator, and sampled by regenerated clock signals synchronized to a carrier. Biphase symbol data are demodulated based on the sampling data. A biphase decoder circuit performs subtraction of the biphase symbol data to be paired. The subtraction result is compared with threshold values by data judgment circuitry which then judges inversion of the biphase signals to be paired. An RDS-ID detector circuit detects inversion of RDS signals by detection of either continuity or a ratio of signals received for a certain length period. Alternatively, RDS signals are detected by stability of output from the pair judgment circuit to detect a combination of biphase symbols.

    • The present invention relates to apparatus and method of synthesizing speech for synthesis units which form words. The method comprises the steps of generating, for each of multiple utterances of a given synthesis unit, a series of frames of analysis data, the frames being generated one frame every To period, each frame in each series having a parameter value associated therewith; where one series results in M frames of data, partitioning each other series of frames to provide M time intervals each of which corresponds to one of the frames of said one series; synthesizing speech data for the synthesis unit, the synthesized speech data corresponding to a sequence of time intervals wherein each time interval has an associated parameter value, said synthesizing step including the steps of:(a) representing the synthesized data as a sequence of M time intervals, interpolating each ith time interval (where 1.ltoreq.i.ltoreq.M) for the synthesized data from the respective ith intervals corresponding to the utterance; and(b) interpolating the parameter value at each ith time interval of the synthesized data from the parameter values for the respective ith intervals corresponding to the utterances.

    • A character in a pattern area is optically scanned and the scanned black and white signal cells of the character are stored in a digital memory. The character in the digital memory is recognized through an initial feature extraction process, unification process, concentration process, and recognition process. In the initial feature extraction process each cell thus scanned is encoded according to the presence of a character line or a black cell in a predetermined direction from each cell. The unification process unifies the code of each cell according to a predetermined algorithm, and the concentration process provides a concentrated code for each cell. The recognition process counts each of the concentrated codes and determines the class to which the character to be recognized belongs when the number of particular concentrated codes reaches a predetermined threshold which is defined for each class. The stepping up in the counting of the concentrated code in the recognition process is performed with some conditions, in which, for instance, only when a predetermined concentrated code appears a predetermined number of times, the particular concentrated code is initiated for counting.
