    • A control valve is used for a variable displacement compressor. The compressor has a crank chamber and a supply passage. The control valve includes a valve housing. A valve chamber is defined in the valve housing. A valve body is accommodated in the valve chamber for adjusting the opening size of the supply passage. A pressure sensing chamber is defined in the valve housing. A pressure sensing member separates the pressure sensing chamber into a first pressure chamber and a second pressure chamber. The pressure at a first pressure monitoring point is applied to the first pressure chamber. The pressure at a second pressure monitoring point located is applied to the second pressure chamber. The pressure sensing member moves the valve body in accordance with the pressure difference between the first pressure chamber and the second pressure chamber. The pressure sensing member is a bellows or a diaphragm, an actuator applies force to the pressure sensing member in accordance with external commands. The force is applied by the actuator corresponds to a target value of the pressure difference. The pressure sensing member moves the valve body such that the pressure difference seeks the target value.

    • A variable displacement compressor air conditions a compartment and includes a suction chamber, a discharge chamber and a crank chamber. A controller controls the pressure in the crank chamber to vary the compressor displacement. Two pressure monitoring points are located in a refrigerant circuit. The pressure in the crank chamber is controlled by a control valve. The control valve operates based on the pressure difference between the monitoring points such that a target pressure difference is maintained. A temperature sensor monitors the temperature of the compartment. A detection circuit compares the monitored temperature with reference values. When the monitored temperature surpasses one reference value or falls below another, the detection circuit outputs a detection signal. When receiving the detection signal, a pressure difference changer gradually increases or decreases the target value of the pressure differences accordingly.

    • A control valve for a variable displacement compressor in refrigerant circuit permits the compressor displacement to be accurately controlled regardless of the thermal load on an evaporator. The refrigerant circuit includes a high pressure pipe, which extends between a discharge chamber of the compressor and a condenser. A first pressure monitoring point is located in the discharge chamber. A second pressure monitoring point is located in the high pressure pipe. A supply passage connects the second pressure monitoring point with a crank chamber of the compressor. The control valve is located in the supply passage and adjusts the opening size of the supply passage in accordance with the difference between the pressure at the first pressure monitoring point and the pressure at the second pressure monitoring point. The control valve includes a solenoid for determining the target value of the pressure difference. The control valve operates to maintain the determined target value.
