摘要： The present invention provides apparatus and methods for measuring multimedia demand and for maximizing broadcast channel utilization. A first, two way communications channel or channels, from a customer to a broadcaster are provided, as well as a second broadcast channel, which may be, in some embodiments, combined with the two way channel. A bid cycle is established for available programs, whereby one or more programs is listed as available on said two way channel, whereupon one or more customers may bid on those programs in order to view those programs. If the aggregated bids reached a threshold value, the broadcaster will then broadcast the program to the bidding customers, thus closing the bid cycle. If the threshold is not reached, the bid cycle is unsatisfied.

摘要： A system and method for broadcasting content includes a content provider which interfaces with one or more clients through a network. The content provider includes a scheduler responsive to requests for content from clients. The scheduler provides the content in blocks by making the blocks available to requesters by a plurality of streams wherein a subsequent requester accesses blocks from previous requester's streams complemented by a subset of blocks as a stream for this requester to complete an entire set of blocks for the subsequent requester. By manipulating the scheduler as a function of user requests, this system and method is able to provide a video on demand service at a fractional bandwidth usage of a conventional VOD system.

摘要： A Content Request System (CRS) is operated to request the downloading of content from a Content Server to a Content Viewing System using a proxy and an Intermediary Server. CRS obtains parameters related to the download including at least an identification of data to be downloaded, the identity of a CS containing the identified data, and the identity of an IS to which the identified data is to be downloaded. CRS creates a proxy that facilitates the downloading of the identified data from the identified CS, the proxy containing the obtained parameters. The proxy is transmitted to the identified IS which uses the proxy to download the identified data from the identified CS in accordance with the parameters contained in the proxy. The identified IS then transfers the downloaded data to CVS.
