    • A video colposcope includes a system microcomputer having algorithms for color balance levels stored into memory. A video camera obtains a subject electronic image of a subject object, and using algorithm-driven digital signal processing circuitry (DSP), color saturation, hue, and intensity levels of the subject electronic image are modified according to DSP reference filter algorithm and reference color balance levels as stored, thus producing a modified electronic image corresponding to the subject electronic image. The modified electronic image is outputted to a display in continuous real time as the corresponding subject image is obtained by the video camera. This modified electronic image emulates that obtained through an optical green filter and incorporates a simulated white balance.

    • A manually rotated knob drive mechanism incorporates a torque override feature. If the knob turning force exceeds a predetermined torque limit the feature permits slippage between the knob and the associated stem or drive shaft. The knob can continue to rotate, under slippage, until the knob and stem are aligned at a predetermined mutual orientation, or home position. This occurs at only one home position. The torque override feature is formed of an insert molded into the knob, and having a bore in which there is an annular shoulder. A hub member fits into the insert and has an annular surface that faces the insert shoulder. The hub member attaches to the stem or shaft and a spring yieldably urges the hub member against the insert. There are protuberances on the insert shoulder and corresponding grooves or recesses on the hub member annular surface, which coincide with one another only at the home position. The knob drive can be employed on the steering control handle of a borescope, endoscope or guide tube.

    • A variable focus camera system for a borescope or endoscope has a camera or imager disposed within an imager sleeve and a braid and bladder assembly attached between the distal end of the imager sleeve and a lens assembly. A controlled pressure is applied through a pressure conduit into a confined volume defined by the imager sleeve, the braid and bladder assembly, and the lens assembly. The braid and bladder assembly expands axially but not radially, when pressure is applied, and changes the relative position of the imager and lens between a far focus and a near focus position.

    • A terminator for a hydraulic or pneumatic muscle seals the end of the internal elastomeric bladder and provides direct transfer of force between the external braid and a mechanical device to which the terminator is connected. The terminator is provided with an annular land or step at the end that is inserted into the corresponding end of the muscle, a first valley or recess after the first annular land, a second annular land or step adjacent the first recess, a second annular valley or recess adjacent the second land and axially separated from the first recess, and an anchor or attachment portion beyond the second valley or recess which provides a point of attachment for the end of a cable or for a tubular sheath or the like. The bladder is attached to the first recess to form a fluid-tight seal, and the end of the braid continues over this and over the second land, and is attached to the second valley or recess. The attachments can be made using coils or wraps of fishline or equivalent.
