摘要： A data electrode driving circuit, a scanning electrode driving circuit, a liquid crystal display unit and a driving method thereof for attaining simultaneous scanning and driving of a plurality of rows in a passive matrix type liquid crystal display unit. A scanning electrode driving circuit includes a scanning function generating circuit for generating scanning functions for m rows. A scanning voltage is selected by the scanning function and a driving voltage is supplied to the scanning electrode. On the other hand, a data electrode driving circuit includes shift registers for m rows. The shift registers produce display data for m rows taken therein at the same time. The display data for m rows and the scanning function produced by the scanning electrode driving circuits are subjected to comparison operation. One level of m+1 level voltages is selected in accordance with the operation result and is supplied to the data electrode. The liquid crystal panel performs display in accordance with the voltage for the scanning electrode and the voltage for the data electrode.

摘要： A display unit which can detect the X coordinate of a position with which a pen is in contact more efficiently. In a non-display period, X-electrodes are grouped into N regions according to the X-electrode arrangement, each region is divided into two parts according to the X-electrode arrangement, and selection voltage is applied to the X-electrodes belonging to each part having larger X coordinates. The process is repeated in order while N is doubled from one to the half value of the number of the X-electrodes of a liquid crystal panel. If a pen coming in contact with the liquid crystal panel and detecting X-electrode selection voltage detects selection voltage with respect to each N value, the Nth most significant bit of the X coordinate of the position with which the pen is in contact is set to `1.` If the pen does not detect selection voltage, the bit is set to `0.` Thus, the X-electrode of the position with which the pen is in contact can be detected at the number of selection voltage application times equal to the minimum number of bits that can represent each of the X-electrodes.

摘要： In a hold-type display device, such as a liquid crystal display device, so-called blurring which appears on a profile of a displayed animated image can be suppressed without degrading the brightness of the image. An image based on video data to be inputted to a display device is displayed for every frame period and, thereafter, the image is masked with a blanking image. Here, the ratio between an image display period of the video data and a blanking image display period in one frame period is adjusted, based on the number of pixel rows selected in a pixel array in response to a scanning clock for respective periods, the frequency of the scanning clock, and shortening of a horizontal period of display signal inputting to every pixel row with respect to a horizontal scanning period of the video data, whereby the image can be efficiently cancelled using the blanking image.
