摘要： Rather than dropping packets, the invention throttles the rate that audio packets are output from a voice gateway by increasing the VoIP packet size. An encoder in the voice gateway encodes audio signals into audio packets. A processor in the voice gateway then switches the audio packets to the IP network. The invention throttles the rate that these VoIP packets are switched from the voice gateway by varying the number of samples of the incoming audio signals that are encoded into each packet payload. By increasing the packet payload size in the VoIP packets, the voice gateway can switch the same amount of audio data in fewer VoIP packets. Producing fewer VoIP packets increases the available capacity of the voice gateway for processing audio signals for more calls. In other words, encoding more audio data into each VoIP packet keeps the voice gateway from having to drop packets. If capacity in the voice gateway increases (the number of incoming calls decreases), the voice gateway can resume generating VoIP packets at the original packet size.

摘要： A call fallback scheme is provided in a packet switched network. After receiving incoming calls, a Voice over IP (VoIP) link is established over a packet switched network with a destination endpoint. VoIP packets are generated from the incoming calls and sent over the VoIP link to the destination endpoint. When a low quality of service condition is detected on the VoIP link with the destination endpoint, a fallback call is established with the destination endpoint over a circuit switched network. The VoIP packets for the incoming calls are redirected from the VoIP link to the circuit switched data link. As opposed to simply hairpinning a TDM voice call back over the PSTN network 102, the same VoIP packets for the incoming calls originally destine for the destination endpoint over the packet switched network are rerouted through the fallback call. This simplifies synchronization with VoIP packets sent over the VoIP network. Because VoIP packets for more than one call can be sent over the fallback call, the cost of maintaining the fallback call is also substantially reduced.

摘要： Methods for localized thinning of wafers used in semiconductor devices and the structures formed from such methods are described. The methods thin localized areas of the backside of the semiconductor wafer to form recesses with a bi-directional channel design that is repeated within the wafer (or die) so that no straight channel line crosses the wafer (or die). The bi-directional pattern design keeps the channels from being aligned with the crystal orientation of the wafer. The recesses are then filled by a solder ball drop process by dropping proper size solder balls into the recesses and then annealing the wafer to reflow the solder balls and flatten them out. The reflow process begins to fill in the recesses from the bottom up, thereby avoiding void formation and the resulting air traps in the reflowed solder material. Other embodiments are also described.
