    • The present invention broadcasts location information to communication terminals, which are located in a geographic area associated with the location information. Communication terminals within the area in which the broadcasted location information can be received will receive the location information and be able to use the location information as an indication of their actual locations.     • The present invention provides a combined user agent, which acts on behalf of multiple packet-based communication clients that may have different media capabilities. The combined user agent allows the different communication clients to cooperate with one another and participate in the same multimedia session. Different ones of the communication clients may support different types of media sessions. The combined user agent may present a single interface, which is associated with a single identification, on behalf of the supported communication clients to remote communication clients. As such, the combined user agent may appear to remote communication clients as a single communication client having the combined capabilities of the supported communication clients.

    • A two-wire transmission path repeater includes, between two hybrid circuits coupled to the path, an echo canceller and an amplifier for each direction of transmission, each echo canceller including a transversal filter and a subtracting circuit. The power ratio between signals before and after the subtracting circuit of each echo canceller is used to distinguish between simplex and duplex signals. If the power ratio exceeds a given value, which is dependent upon the input signal power, for only one transmission direction then a simplex signal in the opposite direction is determined, the gain of the amplifier for the one transmission direction is reduced, and adaptation of the transversal filter coefficients for the opposite direction is prevented. If the power ratio for both directions falls below the given value then a duplex signal is determined, the gain of both amplifiers is increased and adaptation of the coefficients of both transfer filters is continued for a short period, then the gain of both amplifiers is reduced and adaptation prevented, thereby facilitating stable operation of the repeater.

    • Calls are established with a single mobile terminal through either a wireless network or via a terminal adaptor over the PSTN or a packet network. The terminal adaptor and mobile terminal communicate via a local wireless interface. The mobile terminal may facilitate cellular calls via the wireless network as well as PSTN or packet-based calls via the terminal adaptor. The mobile terminal may initiate a handoff when it is involved in a call through the wireless network and within a communication zone of the terminal adaptor. The handoff will establish a connection between the wireless switch, which is currently supporting the call, and the mobile terminal through the terminal adaptor. Once the connection with the mobile terminal through the terminal adaptor is established, the call is transitioned to the new connection and the mobile terminal will transfer to the local wireless interface to support the call.

    • A packet communication address is delivered through in-band signaling over a circuit-switched network connection for a call, so the packet communication address can be used to establish a packet session outside the circuit-switched network. When the call is initiated from an initiating communication client to a terminating communication client using a directory number associated with the terminating communication client, a portion of the bearer path is established through the circuit-switched network between two network gateways. The packet communication address for the originating communication client may be received in a call establishment request by an originating network gateway. The originating network gateway will use in-band signaling over the bearer path to provide the packet communication address for the originating communication client to a terminating network gateway. Upon receipt of the packet communication address, the terminating network gateway will initiate transferring the call to a packet session established outside the circuit-switched network.

According to an aspect, a method includes monitoring communications requests. Each of the communications requests may include a request for conducting a communication session between a requesting user and a requested user. The method may also include monitoring user responses to the communications requests. Further, the method may include determining user contexts for the requested user corresponding to each of the communications requests communicated to the requested user. The method may include determining an indication of user availability for the requested user based on the user responses and the corresponding user contexts. The method may also include providing the indication of user availability to one or more authorized users.
