    • A property of a protein is modified by the following steps: (a) selecting 1000 or more genes from the genome of a first microorganism, and selecting 1000 or more genes from the genome of a second microorganism, wherein the genes from the first microorganism are orthologs to the genes from the second microorganism, and wherein the second microorganism is closely related to the first microorganism, but grows differently under at least one optimum growth condition when compared with the first microorganism, (b) comparing an amino acid sequence encoded by a gene from the first microorganism to an amino acid sequence encoded by the orthologous gene from the second microorganism, (c) detecting substitutions between the amino acid sequence encoded by a gene from the first microorganism and the amino acid sequence encoded by a gene from the second microorganism for each pair of orthologous genes, (d) compiling the detected amino acid substitutions for each amino acid substitution type, (e) calculating the frequency of each amino acid substitution type, wherein for each detected amino acid substitution type, a correction is made by subtracting the total number of substitution types which occur from the first microorganism to the second microorganism from the total number of the same substitution type which occurs in the reverse direction, or from the second microorganism to the first microorganism, (f) identifying and labelling the amino acid substitutions which occur at a high frequency as amino acid substitutions which are involved in said optimum growth condition, and (g) introducing one or more of the amino acid substitutions identified in (f) into the gene encoding the protein to modify a property of the protein.

    • In a shoe 5 for a swash plate compressor, the conical tapered surface 13 is formed between the spherical surface 10 and the rounded edge 14 to converge toward the spherical surface 10 inside an imaginary spherical surface 15 including the spherical surface 10. The conical tapered surface 13 forms a relatively large arcuate gap 23 between the hemispherical concavity 7 and the conical tapered surface 13. The arcuate gap 23 serves to reserve necessary amount of lubricant oil which may be supplied to sliding portions between the spherical surface 10 of the convex surface 11 and hemispherical concavity 7 of the piston 2. In addition, upon manufacture of the shoe 5, it can easily be removed from a metallic mold 52 due to existence of the arcuate gap 23 which prevents tight fit of the shoe 5 in the mold 52.

    • A color cathode-ray tube where an electron beam selection mask with an aperture grille type beam selection electrode of a thin metal plate attached to a frame is supported by engagement of stud pins with support springs and is thereby positioned stably opposite to a color luminescent screen formed on the inner surface of a panel. A projection is formed on either the top of each stud pin or the bottom of each cap opposed thereto, while a recess is formed in the other for engagement with the projection in the direction orthogonal to the action of the support spring. The mutual contact portions of such projection and recess are coated with solid lubricant films so that the beam selection mask can be reset at its proper position despite any external impact applied thereto. The elasticity constant of the frame is selectively set at a desired value with additional disposition of reinforcing plates having the same thermal expansion coefficient as that of the frame, thereby averting vibration of the beam selection mask. And rotary mechanisms are formed relative to the support springs and are rotated in accordance with thermal expansion of the frame, so that the frame is shifted toward the panel surface having a color luminescent screen thereon, whereby mislanding of the electron beam due to temperature rise in the beam selection mask can be prevented.
