摘要： A filter for molten metal is an open-pored porous material comprising particles of refractory material embedded in and bonded together by a carbon matrix bonding material. The filter can be made by forming a porous article from refractory particles, e.g. refractory oxide, carbide or graphite, and a carbon-rich binder, e.g. tar, pitch or an organic (preferably aromatic) polymer that degrades to form carbon on pyrolysis, and then firing the porous article to generate the carbon matrix in which the refractory particles are embedded. The porous article is preferably made by coating a reticulated polyurethane foam with binder and refractory particles, and firing at preferably no higher than 800° C.

摘要： A remote telemetry metering system, includes one or more battery-powered metering units and a central data collection unit, each including a radio transceiver. The central data collection unit transmits a signal including power down time information and transmits instructions, which is received by each metering unit. Each metering unit extracts the power down time information and transmits instructions from the signal and, if appropriate, transmits data in response to the data transmit instructions; this data being collected by the central data collection unit. The metering units then interrupt the power supply to their transceivers for a period of time which is dependent upon the power down time information. The central data collection unit delays, for a slightly longer period of time before transmitting a further signal via its transceiver, at which time the power supply to the transceiver of each metering unit has already been resumed. By allowing the metering units to power down to a quiescent state under the control of the central data collection unit, flexibility is ensured and power consumption minimized.

The set of available functions comprises a record function operative to cause the digital video recorder to record content and store that content on the digital video recorder, and a playback function operative to cause the digital video recorder to play back content stored on the digital video recorder. Subsequently, at least in part in response to the instructions from the user, the DVR controller issues a command to the digital video recorder to perform the function. The digital video recorder is operative to present content on a presentation device controlled by the user. The DVR controller, in turn, is remotely disposed from the digital video recorder in a facility of a content provider.
