摘要： A curtain airbag assembly comprises an inflatable curtain airbag configured to prevent egress of an occupant out of a window during a collision or rollover event. When the curtain airbag is inflated, a bottom edge of the curtain airbag extends below a window sill in a vehicle. A distance the inflated curtain airbag extends below the window sill is greater than a radius of curvature of the inflated curtain airbag.

摘要： A side impact or rollover protection restraint system (20) is presented having an air bag (22) which upon inflation is of sufficient height to extend from proximate a seat (25) of a vehicle to a location generally adjacent the shoulder of a 95th percentile sized seated occupant such that the inflated air bag will lie between the occupant and a side portion of the vehicle. The air bag including a first and a second panel (24a,24b) of material that are joined together to create a pair of inflatable volumes (36,38) and an internal tether (30) for forming a corresponding bridge between predetermined regions of each of the first and second panel (24a, 24b) such that upon inflation of the air bag these regions are spaced from one another by at least one internal tether, wherein the air bag includes more than one inflatable volume, wherein each volume includes corresponding internal tethers.

The diffuser (26) includes an array of mounting tabs (210) which extend through slots (238) in the washer (28), through slots (310) in the neck portion (300) of the air bag (12), and also through slots (110) in a base plate (18). End portions of the mounting tabs (210) are bent over to clamp an inflator (14) and the air bag (12) to the base plate (18). The diffuser (26) directs inflation fluid from the inflator (14) into the air bag (12). The base plate (18) mounts the inflator (14) and the air bag (12) to a vehicle structure (22).

摘要： An inflator assembly inflates a vehicle occupant restraint. The inflator assembly includes a container in which gas is stored under pressure. An ignitable material is disposed within the container. An actuator assembly is provided to release the stored gas from the container and to ignite the ignitable material. The actuator assembly includes a pyrotechnic charge of ignitable material which burns to move a piston to rupture a portion of the container. A passage through the piston conducts a flow of combustion products resulting from ignition of the pyrotechnic charge of ignitable material to ignite the ignitable material within the container. During burning of the ignitable material, the gas in the container is heated to increase the fluid pressure in the container.
