    • A shift register which is capable of minimizing a spike voltage is disclosed. The shift register includes a plurality of stages, each including a plurality of nodes, a scan pulse output unit controlled according to voltages at the nodes for outputting a scan pulse and supplying it to a corresponding gate line through a scan output terminal, a carry pulse output unit controlled according to the voltages at the nodes for outputting a carry pulse and supplying it to an upstream stage and a downstream stage through a carry output terminal, a node controller for controlling voltage states of the nodes in response to a carry pulse from the upstream stage and a carry pulse from the downstream stage, and a discharging unit connected to any one of a plurality of clock transfer lines and the scan output terminal for discharging a spike voltage of the scan output terminal.

    • A liquid crystal display device and a method of driving the same are discussed. The liquid crystal display device according to an embodiment comprises a liquid crystal panel including a plurality of pixel units arranged in a matrix configuration; red, green and blue pixel cells provided in the pixel units respectively; a data driver to supply data to pixel cells included in each pixel unit, so as to realize the adjacent pixel units displayed with black and white; and a gate driver to drive the pixel cells included in each pixel unit, so as to make the green pixel cell in the pixel unit of displaying the white supplied with corresponding data under condition of that a data line connected to the corresponding green pixel cell is previously charged with the data corresponding to the pixel cell included in the pixel unit of displaying the black.

    • A gate driving apparatus for a liquid crystal display includes a shift register which is provided with first and second half-period clock signals having phases inverted with respect to each other and each having a pulse width of a half-period, first to fourth one-period clock signals having phases shifted sequentially and each having a pulse width of one period, a start pulse, a high-level supply voltage and a low-level supply voltage. The shift register generates a half-period output in response to the start pulse and the first and second half-period clock signals.     • A method of forming a polycrystalline silicon active layer for use in a thin film transistor is provided. The method includes forming a buffer layer over a substrate, forming an amorphous silicon layer over the buffer layer, applying a catalytic metal to a surface of the amorphous silicon layer, crystallizing the amorphous silicon layer having the catalytic metal thereon into a polycrystalline silicon layer, forming an island pattern on the polycrystalline silicon layer, thereby defining an active region underneath in the polycrystalline silicon layer, applying n-type ions to the polycrystalline silicon layer and then heat-treating the polycrystalline silicon layer to remove the catalytic metal from the active region underneath the island pattern, patterning the polycrystalline silicon layer using the island pattern as a mask to form an active layer and to expose a surface of the adjacent buffer layer, removing the island pattern from the active layer using an etchant, and etching the exposed surface of the buffer layer when removing the island pattern.
