摘要： A metal vapor discharge lamp comprising an arc tube, an airtight tube housing the arc tube, and a base bonded to one end of the airtight tube with use of an adhesive, wherein the airtight tube is covered by a protective tube to improve safety as compared to a case where the protective tube is simply bonded to the base with an adhesive. The protective tube is fixed to the base with a double fall-off prevention structure, and latched to the base when a force including gravity and inertia acts on the protective tube toward the closed end of the protective tube in the axial direction thereof. The above-described structure eliminates the need of arranging the protective wall for securing the safety on the side of a lighting device on which the metal vapor discharge lamp is to be fixed, thereby preventing the lighting device from becoming large in size.

A lighting apparatus 1 comprises: a lamp 6 including an outer tube 13 and an arc tube 15 provided inside the outer tube 13; and an opening-type lighting fixture 3 having a mirror part 11 having a concave reflective surface 9 inside which the lamp 6 is disposed. The mirror part 11 reflects light emitted from the lamp 6 at the reflection surface 9 such that the reflected light is emitted through an opening 10 of the mirror part 11. Relational expressions 22≦r≦28, R≦130, and 3.5≦R/r are satisfied, with r denoting a maximum outer diameter [mm] of the outer tube 13, and R denoting an opening diameter [mm] of the mirror part 11.

摘要： A metal vapor discharge lamp having a highly reliable sealed portion. The lamp has an arc tube including a discharge portion of translucent ceramic in which a discharge metal is filled and a pair of electrodes is disposed; small tubular portions coupled to both ends of the discharge portion; feeder bodies inserted into the small tubular portions; and a sealing material sealing the gap between the feeder body and the small tubular portion at the end portion opposite to the discharge portion. The end of the small tubular portions and the inner surface of the discharge portion define a discharge space. The feeder bodies are composed of a conductive cermet and connected to the electrodes. The ends of the feeder bodies extend at least to the ends of the small tubular portions. The temperature of the end of the sealing material on the discharge space side during the lamp operation is not more than 800° C.
