摘要： A configuration is provided which enables reading and display processing of a representative image such as thumbnail list display to be performed effectively. For example, an arrangement is made wherein, as the access information of a referenced image (IDR) serving as a representative image that has been set corresponding to a chapter, representative image access information including address information and reading data size information that are applied to reading of the representative image is recorded in a playlist file or index file. According to this configuration, in the case of performing reading playback of a representative image, such as thumbnail list display, processing with reference to the representative image access information can be performed, and reading playback of an IDR can be performed effectively and rapidly.

摘要： Management information for video data and audio data that are created after their recording is started until it is stopped and that are recorded as a stream file on a record medium is more securely stored. When their recording is started, EP entry information contained in management information of the stream file is created. Whenever EP entry information is created, it is written to a nonvolatile memory. After their recording is stopped, fixed value information and so forth that are contained in the management information are created and written to the nonvolatile memory. According to a disc eject operation, the management information written to the nonvolatile memory is written to the disc and the contents stored in the nonvolatile memory are cleared. Likewise, when power is turned off without the eject operation, information stored in the nonvolatile memory is written to the disc. Since the management information is stored in the nonvolatile memory, even if power is unexpectedly turned off, the management information will not be lost.

An information processing apparatus such as a video camera records data in a manner that permits contents having discontinued recording timings to be played in a seamless fashion. To this end, the information processing apparatus acquires seamless information of a preceding record content to be applied to a recording process of a subsequent record content, and records the seamless information in a record file defined by a record format. For example, the seamless information is recorded in a clip information file. The seamless information remains recorded on an information recording medium as long as the content recorded on the information recording medium remains undeleted. The information processing apparatus can thus read and use the seamless information at any time. With this arrangement, the seamless information is reliably acquired and contents are always recorded in a manner that permits seamless playing.
