    • Systems and methods for powering and/or charging the battery of an electronic device from selectable power sources. A powering device is provided having multiple contacts or connections such that any electronic device can be powered by any power source through utilization of the powering device. In one implementation, the device includes an adapter to couple an electronic device (e.g., a cell phone, game console, iPod®, PDA, camera, computer device or any other portable electronics device) to a power source, wherein the adapter is a vehicle cigarette lighter adapter, a 9 volt battery adapter, a wall socket adapter, a USB adapter, or another power source adapter. In a further implementation, the powering device includes a retractable cord that is selectively coupled to one of a variety of cell phone adapters to allow any type of cell phone to be charged using the device. Additionally, the powering device is used for providing power to a cell phone for purposes of operating the cell phone and/or charging the battery of the cell phone. More particularly, implementation of the present invention relates to adapting a variety of different power sources to provide power to a cell phone.

    • A technique self tests a memory system having memory modules that operate at a normal operating clock rate during a normal operating mode. Each memory module has multiple arrays of synchronous dynamic random access memory devices. The technique involves obtaining, independently of a central controller, time phase identifiers that respectively correspond to the memory modules, and reducing the normal operating clock rate to a reduced clock rate. The technique further involves executing, in the memory modules, self test transactions in different time phases depending on the obtained time phase identifiers. The memory modules initiate execution of self test transactions at the reduced clock rate. Multiple memory modules execute self test transactions in each of the different time phases. Each memory module executes self test transactions that alternately access the multiple arrays of that memory module. Preferably, the time phase identifiers are based on module identifiers that uniquely identify the memory modules.

    • An adjustable filter for a computing system having memory error detecting and correcting features selectively masks user-specified errors, thereby preventing storage of such errors in a control and status register (CSR). The invention includes a command and data register 102; a CSR 103; an error detecting and correcting circuit 108, including a check bit generator 108a, an error detecting circuit 108b, and an error correcting circuit 108c; a memory module 114; and filter logic 300. The contents of a filter control register 220 of the CSR 103 operate to specify a particular error which is to be "filtered". The filter logic 300 includes a plurality of logic gates that compare the user-specified signals stored in the register 220 with error-related signals reported by the error detecting circuit 108b. If the signals match, information associated with the detected error is prevented from being stored in the CSR 103.

    • A closure particularly intended for sealing containers having products packed therein under high vacuum wherein the vacuum retains the closure in place and a very high lifting or prying force is required to unseat the closure from the container to effect the removal thereof. The closure is provided with a supporting band which is interlocked with the shall of the closure and which supporting band has integrally formed as a part thereof a lever which is engageable with a shoulder on an associated container to effect the necessary lifting or prying action. The lever and associated supporting band are preferably injection molded of plastic material and may either be mechanically interlocked with the closure shell or molded in situ relative thereto.
