    • Disclosed are a method and apparatus for decoding encoded image data that has been obtained by dividing image data into a plurality of tiles and encoding the image data on a tile-by-tile basis. JPEG encoding tables that were used in the encoding of each of the plurality of tiles are determined based upon the headers, the JPEG-encoded data of respective ones of the plurality of tiles is arranged based upon the sameness of the JPEG encoding tables, and RST marker codes are inserted between the items of JPEG-encoded data of respective tiles, thereby creating a string of encoded data. By successively decoding this created string of encoded data from the beginning thereof, JPEG decoding need not be initiated afresh for each and every tile of encoded data, thereby making high-speed decoding possible.

    • Input encoded moving image data constituted by a plurality of frames including image data for at least one frame which is encoded by an intra-frame mode and image data encoded by an inter-frame mode is accumulated in, e.g., an accumulating apparatus in the form that allows proper reproduction of moving image data from a frame desired by an operator on the apparatus side to an arbitrary frame. In order to realize this processing, there is provided an image processing apparatus for processing input encoded moving image data constituted by a plurality of frames including image data for at least one frame which is encoded by the intra-frame mode and image data encoded by the inter-frame mode, comprising designation means for designating an arbitrary frame of the input encoded moving image data, decoding means for sequentially decoding the input encoded moving image data, first output means for determining the header frame of frames designated by the designation means, and outputting the header frame after it is decoded by the decoding means, and second output means for outputting input encoded moving image data following the header frame.

    • In a memory-to-memory data transfer apparatus, each of a plurality of memories connected to a memory bus is sequentially selected, and data which occupy predetermined positions in the data read from the selected memory are combined into a set of data. The set of data is sequentially written while addresses in the remaining memory is being updated. Alternatively, a plurality of sets of data are sequentially read out while addresses in a memory are being updated, and data which occupy predetermined positions in the read data are combined into a set of data. The set of data is written while the remaining memories are being sequentially selected. The apparatus may have a plurality of memories connected to a data bus and address generators for generating unique addresses for each of the memories in accordance with a predetermined synchronizing signal. The apparatus, in preferred form, effects transfer of data in thinned-out form or phase-divided form by shifting a generated address or by adding a predetermined value to the address.

    • There is an image processing apparatus to perform an image editing process such as to extract a part of an image or to synthesize a plurality of images. This apparatus comprises: an image information generator to generate image information; an area information generator to generate area information to extract a desired area of the image information; a coding circuit to compress and code the area information; a memory to store the area information which was compressed and coded by the coding circuit; a decoder to decode the area information in the memory; and an extracting circuit to extract the desired area of the image information on the basis of the area information which was decoded by the decoder. The coding circuit codes the area information on a unit basis of n.times.m pixels by use of a coding look-up table. The decoder also decodes the area information by use of a decoding look-up table. The image information is separated into lightness information and shape information on a unit basis of n.times.m pixels and stored. Thus, the capacity of the memory can be reduced.
