    • A computer-implemented system includes a dock detector on a mobile computing device arranged to identify a type of docking station to which the device has been physically coupled, the identified docking station type selected from a plurality of docking station types, including a type associated with a light switch. The system also includes a repository of electronically stored user interface profiles that specify different schemes for presentations of information, where each profile corresponds to a type of docking station. The system further includes a user interface selector that is programmed to select, in response to the dock detector determining that the device has been mounted to a docking station of a type associated with a light switch, a first user interface profile from the repository that causes the device to be responsive to input to alter an illumination state of a lighting element associated with the light switch.

    • A location service for wireless devices is described. In embodiments, a connection identifier is received that indicates a wireless device is linked to a communication node for wireless communication. Additional wireless devices are also linked to the communication node for wireless communication, and the additional wireless devices can each identify its geographic location. Location data is received from the additional wireless devices, where the location data indicates the respective geographic locations of the additional wireless devices. A location of the communication node can be determined from the location data that is received from the additional wireless devices, and a current location can then be assigned to the wireless device based on the determined location of the communication node.

    • In embodiments of managing subscribers on a cellular network, a service provider tracks subscriber devices that are connected for voice communication via a network. The service provider can estimate an increased service load on the network by combining a number of the subscriber devices estimated to still be connected at an appointed time with a number of additional subscriber devices estimated to request connection at or within a predetermined range of the appointed time. The service provider can then cause a number of inactive subscriber devices to be disconnected for at least a predetermined period of time in anticipation of the increased service load.

    • A system and method for remotely servicing a wireless data processing device over a telephony audio channel. For example, a method is described for remotely debugging a wireless data processing device from a service, the wireless device capable of communicating over both a data channel and a telephony channel, the method comprising: receiving a remote diagnostic session request at the service from a wireless data processing device; establishing a telephony-based communication channel with the wireless data processing device if a telephony-based communication channel is not already established; entering codes via the telephone keypad at the service to diagnose the wireless data processing device and transmitting the codes to the wireless data processing device, the codes causing the wireless data processing device to perform one or more operations identified by the codes; and receiving the results of the operations at the service, the results usable for the diagnosis of a problem with the wireless data processing device.
