    • A system and method for allowing a host to support a plurality of capture devices have been disclosed. The host includes a application program. In one aspect, the method and system include providing a first digital imaging device module, providing an interface layer, and providing a second digital imaging device module. The first digital imaging device module includes information relating to a first digital imaging device and is for controlling and providing connectivity to the first digital imaging device. The interface layer is for communicating between the application and the first digital imaging device module. The second digital imaging device module includes information relating to a second digital imaging device. The second digital imaging device module is for controlling and providing connectivity to the second digital imaging device and is accessible by the application through the interface layer. In another aspect, the method and system include providing a plurality of capture device modules and providing an interface control layer. Each capture device module corresponds to each of the plurality of capture devices. Each capture device module controls, provides a user interface for, and provides connectivity to the corresponding capture device. The interface control layer is for communicating between the application and each of the plurality of control device modules.

    • A system for implementing button interface compatibility for button aware applications executing on a touch-screen equipped digital imaging device. A touch-screen is coupled to the digital imaging device and is adapted to accept input from a user. An embedded computer system is built into the digital imaging device for implementing functionality for the digital imaging device. The embedded computer system includes a processor coupled to a memory, wherein the memory stores computer readable code which, when executed by the processor, causes the computer system to implement a hardware abstraction layer, a touch-screen manager, a button interface manager, and an event manager. The hardware abstraction layer is coupled to the touch-screen and is adapted to abstract the functionality of the touch-screen. The button interface manager is coupled to the touch-screen and is adapted to interface with a button aware application. The event manager is coupled to accept input from the touch-screen manager and the button interface manager, wherein the event manager interfaces a touch-screen aware application with the touch-screen by communicating with the interface manager and interfaces a button aware application with the touch-screen by communicating with the button event manager, wherein the touch-screen manager emulates button events to the button event manager such that the button aware application transparently interface with the touch-screen to accept the inputs from the user.

The image file is capable of including incompletely processed data. A reference to the image file is stored in a database. The method and system include ensuring that removal of the image file will not affect processing of a second image file and removing the reference to the image file from the database. In another aspect, the method and system mount a volume on a digital imaging device. The volume contains an image file capable of including incompletely processed data. The method and system include detecting the insertion of the volume, mounting the volume, providing a database including a reference to the image file, and completing image processing of the image file if the image file contains incompletely processed data.

    • A method for systematic generation of one or more image groups to relate a plurality of images as a single group includes providing an image command sequence. The image command sequence controls an image capture session comprising one of a plurality of capture types, and further includes a first command, the first command initiating the image capture session and formation of a first group, a plurality of parameters, the plurality of parameters characterizing the first group as one of at least two image capture group formats, and a second command, the second command ending the image capture session, wherein the image command sequence results in the single group of related images, and wherein the related plurality of images are identified through use of the single group. The central processing unit capably coordinates an image command sequence, the image command sequence controlling an image capture session and including a first command, the first command initiating the image capture session and formation of a first group, a plurality of parameters, and a second command, the second command ending the image capture session, wherein the image command sequence results in the single group of related images.

    • A method and apparatus for editing heterogeneous media objects in a digital imaging device having a display screen, where each one of the media objects has one or more media types associated therewith, such as a still image, a sequential image, video, audio, and text. The method aspect of the present invention begins by displaying a representation of each one of the media objects on the display screen to allow a user to randomly select a particular media object to edit. In response to a user pressing a key to edit a selected media object, one or more specialized edit screens is invoked for editing the media types associated with the selected media object. If the media object includes a still or a sequential image, then an image editing screen is invoked. If the media object includes a video clip, then a video editing screen is invoked. If the media object includes an audio clip, then an audio editing screen is invoked. And If the media object includes a text clip, then a text editing screen is invoked.

    • A method and system for providing a network-based photosharing service is disclosed. The photosharing service includes a central photosharing site having a server, and a plurality of peer nodes each containing digital images. The method and system include associating metadata with each image that is to be shared. The metadata is standardized data indicating at least the position where the image was created. Preferably the data is GPS data, but can be from other sources, and is standardized. Storage of the images is maintained on the respective peer nodes. In response to the peer server receiving search criteria based on the metadata submitted from a first one of the peer nodes, the peer server returns a list of image locators for images matching the search criteria to the first peer node. The images are returned in order of accuracy of the position information data source. There is also disclosed a method and system implemented on a single computer.

    • The present invention provides a method and system for the creation and use of simple and complex templates. The system includes providing the template where the template contains a plurality of tags, and then applying the template to the image based on the tags. The plurality of tags provide instructions for the application of a plurality of plane files to be applied to the image. The method and system in accordance with the present invention automates the process of applying templates to images which reduces the required amount of user time for the interface. Its use of tags to store the template requires less storage space. The method and system in accordance with the present invention thus saves the user considerable time and effort in applying templates. It also require less processing time over manual template creation methods.
