    • A cam housing assembly oscillates in association with rotation of an eccentric cam which is attached to a camshaft and is allowed to press a clutch by cam pins of the cam housing assembly. A pair of piston assemblies are provided of which each includes a piston which can slide within a sleeve, a spindle and a nut which screws on to the spindle and are supported in hole portions in a caliper body so as to oscillate therein, whereby a brake pad is pressed against by a plug after the spindle, the nut and the piston are sequentially pressed by pressing a clutch by the cam pins. Since the spindle and the nut are screwed on to each other through a reversible screw, a gap is adjusted automatically as the pad wears.

    • An electric direct-acting actuator is proposed which can maintain a large power increasing function without mounting a separate speed reducer. A plurality of planetary rollers (7) are disposed between the radially outer surface of a rotor shaft (5) of an electric motor and the radially inner surface of an outer ring member (1) fixed in position around the rotor shaft (5) so as to be rotatable about the rotor shaft (5) and about their own axes when the rotor shaft (5) rotates. A helical rib is defined by a rib member (9) engaged in a helical groove (8) formed in the radially inner surface of the outer ring member (1). The helical rib is engaged in circumferential grooves (10) formed in the radially outer surface of each planetary roller (7) at the same pitch as the turns of the helical rib. Thus, the rotary motion of the rotor shaft (5) is converted to a linear motion of the planetary rollers (7), so that it is possible to ensure a large power increasing function without mounting a separate speed reducer.

    • A harmonic drive linear actuator includes a first annular member defining a longitudinal axis and lying on a plane, which is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. The first member is relatively flexible along a direction parallel to the plane. A second member is substantially coaxially aligned with the first member to define opposed substantially cylindrical surfaces and are fixed for non-relative rotation about the longitudinal axis. An actuator is provided for flexing the first annular member into at least two spaced-apart points of contact between the opposed surfaces and for sequentially flexing the first member to rotate the at least two points of contact circumferentially about the axis. The first and second surfaces define cooperating thread-forms thereon, which selectively engage to effect controlled, bidirectional relative axial displacement between the members in response to sequential flexure of the first member. The linear actuator can be conjoined with an actuator piston of a vehicle brake caliper assembly.

    • The brake system includes a brake lever independent of, but capable of rotating about the same point as a bell crank. Upon receiving a downward force, a member extending from the lever strikes a portion of the bell crank and generates a force that cause the bell crank to rotate. Rotational action of the bell crank transfers rotational energy to an equalizer bar thorough a linkage system. The equalizer bar's rotation increases or decreases tension on brake bands that slow a tubing drum. A cylinder can activate and cause the equalizer bar to rotate, applying tension to the brake bands and slowing the drum. Rotational energy is transferred back to the bell crank through the linkage. The rotational energy is absorbed by a spring positioned between the bell crank and the brake lever, thereby reducing the amount of sudden force passed through the brake lever to an operator.
