摘要： A beehive system includes a main hive body with opposed, insulated side walls having access ports formed respectively therein. A vent assembly fits into an access port, and includes a valve case with an outer housing, a coaxial core portion, and plural opposed panels between the outer housing and the core portion, with openings formed between the panels. A pivotally movable valve member includes a core portion and two or more blades attached to and extending outwardly from the core portion. The valve member cooperates with the valve case to regulate air flow through the vent assembly. A bimetallic coil interconnects the valve case and the valve member, and a perforated screen cover is attached to the valve case to allow air flow therethrough. A kit of components usable to retrofit an existing hive, and a method of retrofitting an existing beehive to add a vent thereto, are also disclosed.

摘要： A fondant feeding method and device for beekeeping. The method and apparatus comprising a raised platform having at least one through hole. The raised platform is placed atop the uppermost box in a standard hive body and fondant is placed above the through hole. Optional mesh within the through hole prevents the fondant from sagging. The platform and fondant are surrounded by an enclosing structure and topped with an inner and outer cover such that the device and food are housed within the hive body and protected from the elements. Bees may cluster freely beneath the chamber created by the raised platform to feed and generate heat. The platform shields the cluster from dripping condensation while simultaneously promoting a fondant consistency that is ideal for feeding.

摘要： An artificially-created honey-yielding environment is established, including a hive and an associated flora cell, within which first and second plant populations cohabit. Within the cell, honey-producing insects from the hive are permitted to forage. One of the populations has been artificially introduced. The other may be indigenous to the cell. The first plant population serves as a primary source of nectar which yields bioactive honey and the second serves as a source of a nutrient, such as protein, which is not abundantly available from the first species at a nutritionally adequate level for sustaining the metabolism and energy of the foraging honey-producing insects for returning to the hive. The first flora population may be a Leptospermum species. An example of the second is Corymbia maculata.

摘要： A watering system is configured to supply water to insects without the insects drowning. The watering system has a base portion with a base lip which is attached to all distal edges of a pan. An overflow channel is arranged next to the pan and through the base lip. A flow path is arranged in the base portion and further has a lip with a fluid pathway. A retainer ring is installed into the flow path immediately adjacent to the lip. The retainer ring has a retainer ring fluid pathway. The fluid pathway is aligned with the retainer ring fluid pathway. The pan is attached to raised sections with channels therebetween. Fluid that is inserted through the retainer ring flows through the fills the fluid pathway and the retainer ring fluid pathway, before filling the channels, and then spilling out of the overflow channel.

The apparatus comprises a box-like container (10) accommodating in its interior at least one reservoir for liquid-tight, accessible from outside through a nozzle (4), an atomizing device of a liquid solution or suspension contained in the reservoir, means for the delivery (2, 1) of the liquid atomized solution or suspension into micrometric drops outside the apparatus, and a control unit programmed for timing the delivery of the solution or suspension to the outside, for the determination of the quantity of solution or suspension delivered and for emitting alarm signals in case of malfunction, the apparatus being powered DC with the energy supplied by a solar panel (5) located outside of the container.The liquid solution or suspension comprises tonic and nutrient ingredients, mainly consisting of milk powder, sugars and lower organic acids, antioxidant and antiseptic ingredients contained in plant extracts and healing ingredients to bees, such as essential oils of thyme and oxalic acid.
