(a) positioning a metal element between a first concave upper die and a first convex lower die having a radius to form a dimple shape in the medial element; (b) positioning the dimple shaped metal element formed in step (a) between a second concave upper die and second convex lower die having a radius smaller than the radius of the first convex lower die to reform the dimple shaped metal element formed in step (a); and (c) positioning the dimple shaped metal element formed in step (b) between a third concave upper die and a third convex lower die having a radius larger than the radius of the second convex lower die. A contact dimple manufactured by the method is also disclosed.

    • A press-fitting unit includes a vertically movable press blade for press-fitting a stripped end of an electrical wire to a terminal disposed in a connector. A connector retaining bar movable in a horizontal direction is disposed to be opposed to the press blade. The retaining bar is provided with a plurality of connector receiving recesses in parallel to respectively hold a connector with a press-fit terminal. A wire chuck is disposed so as to opposing to the rear part of the press blade. The wire chuck is horizontally movable along a horizontal guide to a side of the press blade so as to holding the wire. Alternatively, the connector retaining bar is fixed to the apparatus by a frame and a transfer mechanism can carry the press-fitting unit along the bar in a horizontal direction. In addition, the apparatus may have a pair or two pairs of the upper and lower symmetrical press-fitting units; and the connector retaining bar is disposed between the upper and lower press-fitting units.

    • A flexible bond harness including a flexible ground subassembly and a rigid ground subassembly which are joined together by a barrel connector. The flexible ground assembly has a first terminal connector which is mounted to the distal end portion of a substantially flexible conductor and the rigid ground assembly has a second terminal connector which is mounted to the distal end portion of a substantially rigid conductor. The barrel connector has a substantially uniform thickness, first and second side walls, a base and is divided into first and second segments. The proximal end portion of the flexible conductor is positioned within the first segment and the proximal end portion of the rigid conductor is positioned within the second segment. The first and second segments of the barrel connector are simultaneously crimped onto the flexible and rigid conductors, respectively, forming a bond which prevents relative motion between the barrel connector and the flexible and rigid conductors.

    • The present invention is directed to a crimping machine having a hopper assembly for receiving loose bulk quantities of elongated components and supplying them aligned end-to-end and in random orientation to a feeder device. The feeder device receives the components in an inlet chute and feeds each of the components one-at-time having a desired orientation to an outlet chute. The feeder device includes a rotatable disk having a central chamber therein adapted to receive each of the components, and includes a releasable gate. The disk and gate function independently, as required, between the inlet chute and the outlet chute, to sequentially release (or invert and release) each of the components one-at-a-time and having a desired orientation for utilization, to a crimping assembly. The crimping assembly is adapted for receiving and positioning one of the components, and also receiving and guiding a conductor into the received component and, upon demand, crimping the received component thereby providing a secure electrical and mechanical attachment thereof on the conductor.
