    • An adjustable tensioning device for a revolver hammer main spring where the main spring is preferably a leaf spring that is maintained in the grip frame, between a hammer spring mounting and a seat formed in the grip frame, and the adjustable tensioning device is a bell crank pivotally mounted in the grip frame and having surfaces that, respectively, are engaged by turning a screw fitted through the grip butt end to lift the one or first bell crank surface to as to pivot the other or second bell crank surface into the leaf spring, increasing the bow therein. The increase in leaf spring bow translates to an increase in force as is needed to be applied to the revolver trigger to release the hammer to fire the revolver and provides an increase in the speed of hammer fall and the force that the hammer applies to a cartridge primer. Optionally, a force as can be applied to the first bell crank surface by employing a plurality of screws fitted that are individually turned through the grip frame butt end to individually engage and lift the first bell crank surface to pivot the second bell crank surface into the leaf spring.

    • A firearm having a trigger which is pivoted to the frame, a hammer which is pivoted to the frame and biased in a forward position, a barrel which is pivotally mounted on the frame so that the breech end of the barrel can be moved between a closed position and an open position. A latch is operatively connected to the hammer and to the trigger for positioning the trigger in its cocked position when the hammer is in its cocked position and for releasably maintaining the hammer in its cocked position, and for releasing the hammer to its firing position upon manual actuation of the trigger. A first locking means is operatively connected to the barrel for preventing the barrel from moving to its open position when the hammer is in its cocked position. A second locking means is operatively connected to the barrel and to the hammer for preventing the hammer from moving to its cocked position when the barrel is in its open position. More specifically, the latch functions as a sear between the hammer and the trigger for releasing the hammer upon actuation by the trigger. The latch also functions as a hammer block for maintaining the hammer in a neutral position which is between its cocked position and its firing position.

    • A rotatable shaft member supports a first control member and a second control member. The first control member cooperates with a tang of a rotatable sear. The second control member cooperates with an abutment stop of the sear. When the shaft is rotated to where the second control member contacts the abutment stop of the sear, the sear is blocked and the gun cannot be fired. When the shaft member is rotated such that the second control member is moved away from the tang of the sear, the gun can be fired. When the shaft member is rotated further such that the second control member is remote from the abutment stop and the first control member contacts the tang of the sear, the tang moves out of contact with the searing surface of the hammer. The hammer begins to pivot in a gun firing direction until the tang engages a half-cocked notch for stopping movement of the hammer, whereby the hammer is decocked.

    • The loading gate arrangement for a single action revolver comprises a loading gate pivotally mounted on the frame of the revolver by means of a rearwardly extending longitudinally disposed pivot stud, the loading gate having an integrally formed hub portion that is disposed in front of the pivot stud and is formed with retaining flange and detent surfaces. A trigger interlock element connected to and movable with the trigger and a loading gate interlock element located on the loading gate pivot stud cooperate to prevent the trigger from being moved and the hammer from being cocked when the loading gate is open and to prevent the loading gate from being opened when the hammer is cocked. A spring loaded gate retainer and detent member having a horizontally disposed arm portion extending forwardly from the loading gate and a vertically disposed finger portion extending upwardly adjacent the loading gate cooperates with the retaining flange and detent surfaces of the loading gate to retain the loading gate in position on the frame and to releasably detain the loading gate in its closed position when closed and in its open position when open. A laterally extending lug portion of the cylinder latch cooperates with the detent surfaces of the loading gate and with the loading gate retainer and detent member to withdraw the nose of the cylinder latch from engagement with a cylinder latch notch of the cylinder when the loading gate is open.
