    • A combustor is capable of ignition and flame propagation at low fuel concentrations for gas or liquid fuel. Combustors are disposed annularly along an outer peripheral portion of a casing of a turbine. A combustion chamber burns fuel and air to generate a combustion gas. A diffusion burner is disposed upstream of the combustion chamber; and a plurality of premix burners are disposed around the diffusion burner. Cross fire tubes provide communication between combustion chambers of combustors adjacent to each other. A cross fire tube connected to a combustor adjacent to a first side in the circumferential direction of the casing is disposed so as to have a central axis passing over a premix burner as viewed from the combustion chamber and another cross fire tube connected to the combustor adjacent to a second side is disposed so as to have a central axis passing between two premix burners.

    • A crossfire tube assembly is provided having an increased resistance to wear and oxidation. This increased resistance is provided by the application of coatings to the mating surfaces between the crossfire tube and crossfire tube clip. In the preferred embodiment, a physical vapor deposition (PVD) Titanium Aluminum Nitride coating is applied to the outer walls of the crossfire tubes which is used in combination with an air plasma spray (APS) Aluminum Bronze coating applied to the crossfire tube clip open end that mates with the crossfire tubes. The coating combination serves to protect the components from frictional wear and extend their life. In an alternate embodiment, the crossfire tubes also contain a plurality of air purge holes that provide a layer of cooling air along the crossfire tube inner wall.

    • The current invention concerns a combustor having a coupling for a cross-flame tube. The coupling has inner and outer sleeves that form an annular passage therebetween. Holes in the outer sleeve place the annular passage in flow communication with cooling air in the combustion system chamber, thereby causing the cooling air to flow over the proximal end of the outer sleeve. A baffle is formed on the inner sleeve and has a pattern of raised and depressed areas. The raised areas form lands that are attached to the combustor wall. The depressed areas form passages with the wall that direct the cooling air from the annular passage so that it flows over the surface of the combustor inner wall, thereby preventing over heating of the wall.

    • A cross-ignition assembly with a cross-fire tube supported intermediate two adjacent combustors by mounting plates affixed thereto so as to provide a conduit for the flow of hot combustion gases therebetween. The cross-fire tube comprises coaxial telescoping tubular members. A leaf spring retains the outer end of each tubular member in its operative position to effect a cantilever support for each end of the cross-fire tube. A series of cooperating air passageways and channels allow cooling air to flow across the outside and along the inside of the cross-fire tube.
