    • A lamp shade for placement around a lamp is disclosed. The lamp shade comprises a plurality of elongated slats having an aperture proximate to each end thereof. Each end of each slat is interlaced with another end of at least one other slat such that apertures of each slat are coaxially aligned and form a pivot axis therethrough. A plurality of such aligned slats in succession form a geometrically shaped ring, and a plurality of such rings stacked on top of each other such that each pivot axis of one ring is substantially aligned with the pivot axis of an immediately adjacent ring to form a column. A flexible cord traverses each coaxially aligned aperture of each slat along each aligned pivot axis. Each flexible cord includes a stopping means at each end thereof, such as a knot formed in the flexible cord. In embodiments wherein each geometrically shaped ring is comprised of an even number of slats, the lamp shade can be folded into a generally flat configuration and then rolled into a rolled configuration for convenient storage and transportation thereof. In use, the column is placed around the lamp such that light is diffused by the interlaced slats. The slats are positionable so that one geometrically shaped ring may be only slightly differently shaped than its immediately adjacent rings. As such the lamp shade may be adjustable, the column taking any number of various forms. The effect of adjusting the lamp shade allows a variable pattern of light to escape from the sides of the lamp shade and from the open top end thereof.

    • Filtered lights reduce the blinding effect of vehicle headlights on oncoming traffic. A reflector has a bulb socket protruding from its rear and a filter housing attached to its front. A plurality of hollow, opaque tubes are arranged so that light cannot penetrate between them, and their sidewalls are attached to one another and to the sidewall of the filter housing. One end of the tubes, and one end of the filter housing, is attached to a transparent shield. Light beams emitted from a light bulb inserted into the bulb socket are reflected by the reflector through the tubes and shield to focus them on an illuminated area.

    • An antiglare panel is formed of a series of identical inter-locked strips. Each of the strips is formed of a series of "W" shapes having two connected short legs formed at right angles to each other and two long legs extending at right angles from a respective short leg to define the "W" shape. The long legs of adjacent "W's" are formed at right angles to define a projecting right angle. The projecting right angles of one strip are positioned within the recessed right angles of an adjacent strip so that the interior surface of the short legs overlie a portion of the exterior surface of the long legs to provide contacting surfaces. Such contacting surfaces may be secured together.In a preferred embodiment, the strips are formed of tinned steel strip, and the assembled strips are heated after assembly to a temperature above the melting point of the tin coating to provide a metal bond at all contacting surfaces.

    • A device or planoscope for determining a certain plane through the use of a change in an angle of bands of a moire interference pattern. The device may have several sets of screens of opaque lines separated by transparent lines. Each set of screens has a rearward screen of lines and two forward screens of lines. The first forward screen is angled relative to the length of the rearward screen and the second forward screen is parallel to the rearward screen and is located adjacent a side of the first forward screen. The lines of all three screens are parallel to each other and to the length of the rearward screen. The number of lines per unit width of the rearward screen is different than the number of lines per unit width of the forward screens. When the rearward screen is viewed through the forward screens in the certain plane, the bands of the moire interference pattern which arises are parallel to the screen lines. When the rearward screen is viewed through the forward screens outside of the certain plane, the bands of the interference pattern formed by the rearward screen and the second forward screen are parallel to the screen lines, while the bands of the interference pattern formed by the rearward screen and the first forward screen are angled relative to the screen lines.
