    • A process and apparatus for laying optical fibers in the helical grooves of a core for an optical fiber telecommunication cable in which the rotatable bobbins carrying the optical fibers are held in axially fixed positions while the core with helical grooves and the fibers are fed to and through a rotatable fiber inserting device which has projections extending into the grooves which cause rotation of the device as the core is advanced. Between the bobbins and the fiber inserting device there is a supporting tube through which the core passes and the outer surface of which engages and supports the fibers. The downstream end of the tube terminates in advance of the fiber inserting device so that the fibers may enter the grooves in the core at the fiber inserting device.

    • A yarn texturizing machine in which there are provided a plurality of treatment positions, each position presenting, in operational sequence, a yarn supply device, a first yarn feeder, a yarn heating device, a cooling zone for the heated yarn, a false twist spindle, a second yarn feeder and a windup device. This machine is presenting a central frame on either side of which are symetrically arranged the working positions. A guide tube for the yarn is arranged between the first delivery device and the heater entry, the connection between this tube with the heater being realized by means of a connecting element also joined to a blowing source permitting to eliminate the fumes inside the heater. The connecting element comprises means to the stop of the blowing during the yarn launching operation and to the automatic starting of the blowing action when running normally.

    • An optical cable is assembled by inserting dielectric optical waveguides into periodically reversing helical grooves in the surface of a central filament. The invention is concerned with minimizing longitudinal tension in the waveguides. Powered rollers draw dielectric optical waveguide from fixed reels and delivers it, in a slack condition, to a guide unit which is mounted by means of a thrust bearing. The guide unit supports rods with apertures at their ends through which dielectric optical waveguide is guided, the rod ends being disposed within the grooves so that respective dielectric optical waveguides and grooves are maintained circumferentially coincident. Cable is drawn downstream of the guide unit to pull the filament and dielectric optical waveguides together at the guide unit and also to reciprocally drive the guide unit. As the filament, with dielectric optical waveguides positioned in its grooves, exits the guide unit, it is helically wound with tape.

    • An improved capstan assembly for a rope making machine in which separate strands of rope are twisted together and drawn through a forming die by the capstan and then directed onto a take-up spool. The capstan assembly includes a single capstan having a smooth cylindrical peripheral wall and a hollow central shaft through which the advancing rope strand is directed. A separating comb is mounted adjacent the peripheral wall of the capstan such that adjacent windings of the advancing rope strand around the single capstan are engaged and kept separate by the comb teeth and thereby are prevented from overlapping and binding.
