    • A gas wiping device for preventing splash on a steel band including a box-shaped body enclosing the steel band and gas wiping nozzles is provided with a plating bath for storing molten metal, and a box-shaped body placed above the plating bath. The box-shaped body is provided, in the interior, with gas wiping nozzles disposed facing one another on the respective tubular members so as to sandwich a band-shaped body. Gas wiping nozzle is provided with a first spraying unit capable of spraying gas to the steel band, and a second spraying unit and a third spraying unit capable of spraying gas towards the direction of gas wiping nozzle. Gas wiping nozzle is provided with a fourth spraying unit capable of spraying gas to the steel band, and a fifth spraying unit and a sixth spraying unit capable of spraying gas towards the direction of gas wiping nozzle.

    • A gas wiping nozzle includes a primary nozzle portion and at least one secondary nozzle portion provided either or both above and below the primary nozzle portion. The secondary nozzle portion jets a gas in a direction tilted from the direction in which the primary nozzle portion jets the gas and at a lower flow rate. The gas wiping nozzle has a tip whose lower surface forms an angle of 60° or more with the steel strip. The gas jetting port of the secondary nozzle portion is displaced in the direction opposite to the steel strip at least 5 mm apart from the gas jetting port of the primary nozzle portion, and the secondary nozzle portion jets the gas so that the flow rate of the secondary gas jet comes to 10 m/s or more at the confluence with the primary gas jet from the primary nozzle portion.

    • A coating control system is provided enabling continuous operations, free of interruption for coating control purposes, while achieving desired coating weight and thickness profile for the various gages, widths and coating specifications encountered on a given continuous strip production line. In each of a pair of elongated pneumatic dies, a pressurized gas jet is controllably shaped and directed by flow-control means internally-mounted of each pneumatic die to impinge against its respective substrate coated surface with its major directional component of force being controlled to be perpendicularly transverse to the travel path of the coated strip across its full width. Adjustment of such internally-mounted means is coordinated with control of gas pressure supply and/or adjustment of die positioning means to maintain desired coating weight and coating profile across the width of the strip. Pneumatic and other crown-control measures of the invention are exercised along the centerline of the strip enabling production of continuous-strip galvanized steel product having improved tracking and handling properties.
