    • An appendable elevator for the transport of persons and goods can be attached to an outside surface (2) of a wall (16) of a building (1) and includes a self-driven car (5) which runs on a pair of vertically extending guide modules (10). The guide modules (10) are attached at lower ends to a foundation module (12) and at upper ends to a shaft head module (13) to form an inherently stiff and transportable frame. Counterweights (18) are mounted in the guide modules (10) and are attached to the car (5) by cables (19) which engage deflecting rollers (14) mounted on the shaft head module (13). Fastening modules (11) are attached to the guide modules (10) and telescopically mount shaft doors (22). Drive wheels (7), supporting wheels (8) and guide rollers (9) as well as wiring and control equipment are mounted in and on the car (5) to form a prefabricated elevator system which is attached by extending the fastening modules (11) into contact with the building (1).

    • An upright, particularly for a counterbalanced, high lift truck, comprising first and second telescoping dual mast sections disposed in fore and aft relationship, each section having laterally spaced outer, intermediate, and inner rails, and a load carriage elevatable on the inner rails of the front mast section providing a five-stage, sextuple upright. The carriage has side thrust and vertical guide roller pairs travelling in anti-friction engagement on the inner rails spaced to distribute the forces for reducing roller wear and rail distortion. The carriage has a free lift that leaves the top of the carriage flush with the top of the upright reducing the possibility of ceiling damage. The carriage also does not extend laterally beyond the sides of the mast section to reduce interfering with objects alongside the lift, such as storage racks, when engaging a load. The rails and carriage overlap to a high degree thereby allowing loads to be lifted by a truck having a smaller capacity.

    • A novel dual mast storage and retrieval vehicle comprising structure which maintains each mast essentially vertical as variably weighted heavy loads are placed on a carriage disposed between the masts. Each mast is disposed near the center of a separately supported base such that bending of the base under such loads induces little off-vertical deflection to the mast. The separately supported bases are coupled by a connector which comprises cross-aisle and vertical degrees of freedom but is strictly constrained in the down-aisle direction. In the currently preferred embodiment, two down-aisle drive motors, in master/slave relationship, provide a synchronous drive for the vehicle. Further, interconnecting joints a strut at the top of the masts and of the carriage comprise hinges which resist propagation of mast induced moments caused by beam deflection or vehicle dynamics. The invention comprises a lift cable vertical drive assembly wherein a motor is horizontally disposed down-aisle in line with a lift cable winding and unwinding drum. The vertical drive assembly is modularly assembled on a frame and is attachable and detachable from the vehicle as a unit. The vertical drive assembly comprises, in seriatim, the motor, a belt drive sprocket wheel, a drive belt, a belt driven sprocket wheel, and, juxtaposed and on the same axis as the driven sprocket wheel, an input adapter, a speed reducer, and a two lift cable drum. The motor is attached to the frame by jacks used to raise and lower the motor to adjust tension in the belt.

    • A safety device for a trolley riding an inclined track. The safety device includes a safety line running parallel to a tow cable operating the trolley. The trolley includes a lever with a distal end continuously engaging the safety line. When the lever is swung, the distal end takes up slack in the safety line and trips a switch at an end of the safety line to stop operation of the tow cable. The safety device further includes a tension mechanism for maintaining a predetermined amount of tension in the line and for automatically returning the line to such tension after the lever has been pulled. The safety device further includes an isolator connected between the safety line and the switch to isolate the switch from vibrations or disturbances in the line during operation of the trolley to minimize a premature tripping of the switch. The safety device still further includes a cowcatcher or lever portion extending transversely of the track for swinging the lever and taking up slack in the line when the cowcatcher engages an obstruction on the track.

    • Inclined telescopic booms actuated and regulated from the ground with detachable rungs forming a level track between the telescopic booms. A two-stacked load carrier, both stages on crawler type endless tracks, wherein the lower stage of the load carrier spans multiple rungs and is supported by the rungs, and is operable independent of the rungs. The chassis on the lower load carrier is comprised of two sections which are adjustable horizontally. The upper stage of the load carrier upon which cargo is hauled operates so that it can move independently on the ground, ride peggyback on the lower stage and then move independently through a window or similar opening on into the interior of a building. The load carrier and the telescopic booms are raised and lowered by a cable which is guided and supported by an overhead clamp which can be attached to the window frame of a building, to a construction platform, or to a shelf such as in a wharehouse.
